Re: The Ranting Thread
I agree in principle with punishment, not method. To my mind, if we punish via some horrific torture method then we are little better than they are. Saying they forgoe their rights when they make these horrific acts but who are we to decide whether they are human or not? "Everyone is entitled to human rights, except those that are not". Doesn't matter if there's a decent enough reason, it's still incredibly undermining to the civil world#s holier than thou attitude to the countries that have "questionable" human rights support (China or Saudi Arabia for example).

Re: The Ranting Thread
Exactly my point, except for "who are we to decide..." I have no problem calling a rapist a sub-human piece of filth. I do agree, though, with the idea that becoming sub-human ourselves in our treatment of such both debases us and really serves no practical purpose.

Re: The Ranting Thread
Can crucifixion (sp?) be called into play this time of year? I personally believe those roman gents had it right for the people you're talking about.
But I can't throw, I throw like a geek!
Re: The Ranting Thread
I would have thought the best punishment for them would be the sterotypical prison shower scene.
Bite my shiny metal ass
Re: The Ranting Thread
Soooo... what would be the problem with dropping them off somewhere with a sign that says "I rape little children" in multiple languages?

Re: The Ranting Thread
What's the problem? Nothing, of itself in a vacuum. The problem is that nothing occurs in a vacuum. The intent of what you said is obviously to encourage mob justice to take place; then, someone else decides that they are as offended by another crime as we are by rape, and espouses the same thing... then someone else... then we are at a state of institutional vigilantism rather than any semblance of law or justice. I, for one, am unwilling to institute reconstructions of the Leo Frank affair or the David Hennesy case merely to engender some visceral Hammurabic satisfaction.stitch626 wrote:Soooo... what would be the problem with dropping them off somewhere with a sign that says "I rape little children" in multiple languages?

Re: The Ranting Thread
Keep in mind that I am completely anti rape, but here's something to think about.
When I was a teenager, there was a girl named Mia that was part of our click. She used to get off on teasing guys. Litterally getting them naked and into bed before saying "No". She used to brag about the "power it gave her." We all warned her that one day, somebody wasn't going to stop, and sure enough one day it did. She got a 15 year old kid into bed with her, had his schmuck rubbing against her and she said "No, I can't." He thought she was kidding and slid it in anyway.
After......she wanted us to go kick the hell out of him.
Now......does said dumb kid deserve the above punishment?

So she's gets off by pissing other people off and got humped for it... I just can't bring myself to feel sorry for her.
Really, if you're poking the sharks while swimming with them. You shouldn't be surprised when one of them just off and bites you an new one.

I'd call that rape in the same sense of calling dinging a bumper a car crash. And punishing the guy would just be silly, as she clearly was leading him to believe that they were going to have sex and she wanted it.

A court of law would disagree with you. The University I go to has a mandatory online course you have to take covering sexual harrassment/rape and alcohol. As they put it, "you have to have expressed, explicit permission for anything to happen....If she doesn't want to, even if she doesn't tell you, it's still rape."Lighthawk wrote:I'd call that rape in the same sense of calling dinging a bumper a car crash. Quite ridiculous IMO that it goes that far, but I can understand where it comes from at least.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I'm not sure how much more explicit it gets when a girl gets naked with you in bed and rubs up against you. Maybe it's just me and my relationships, but I haven't had many girls give me what I'd consider legally binding verbal permission.Lt. Staplic wrote: A court of law would disagree with you. Unless this kid ended up before a real hardcore jury, I don't think it'd be too hard for him to convince them he had every reason to believe she wanted it. Especially if her habit of teasing guys like this came to light.

Re: The Ranting Thread
New rant: people are assholes.
Now I know that isn't news, but come on folks - when you've got something positive, quit bitching about every little imperfection in that positive thing. I was at my cardiologist today, and a woman was waiting for her appointment. As it turned out, the doc quite literally had saved her life on the OR table... yet she continued to bitch mercilessly about being seen 15 minutes after her scheduled appointment time.
As the great Reverend Horton Heat once sang, "My hot-rod Ford has a couple of dings, but the engine purrs and the radio sings."

Re: The Ranting Thread
I know that we're taught when we have Hampshire Constabulary come in once in a blue moon, she has to explicitly state "Yes" or she has to continue to display wanting it right until the very second "it" begins. She can back out at any point and say no, regardless of how close it got, and if he continues its treated as rape by our courts.Lighthawk wrote:I'm not sure how much more explicit it gets when a girl gets naked with you in bed and rubs up against you. Re: The Ranting Thread
IMO its a hard distinction to make, ESPECIALLY in light of the fact that she used to brag about "the power" it gave her. Needless to say, that she didn't want to go to the police, she just wanted us to jump this poor kid and stomp him half to death, which there was no way we were gonna do.
If he'd tossed her down, ripped her clothes off, and forced her he'd have had four broken limbs, but as it wen't down, it was just too morally ambigious.
