Thats the point of the Essex stereotype. They don't seem to want it look gangster, or look good, or whatever. They have a particular thing for shit, poorly maintained cars with crap body kits and awful grey tracksuits.

Back in the day, as a young man, I had a beat-up old Isuzu Stylus compact sedan. Well, I blew both front struts in a particularly bad pothole and had the car parked in my GF's (now wife) rather urban, inner-city town until I could have it towed to a wrench. While it was there, more than one member of my (now) bro-in-law's high school football time asked me if I used bags or spindles to lower it, and where I got the kit.

That particular brand of Essex boy seem fond of old Ford's, like the Escort in that picture. Dad always went down the proper sports car route, a Triump Stag for example. Unfortunately, it never worked.
