It comes with fatherhood. I am about as non-violent a man as you'll find outside of the Quakers; but when my bro-in-law told us that his new baby will be a girl, I told him we could go apply for our handgun permits together. ;)

Disturbing, but also heartwarming. :p

I survived the first day of my new job. So far so good. :)

My grandma went in the hospital yesterday; she'd had some tests done because she was having trouble breathing, and they called back the next day and wanted her in for a CT scan immediately.

My uncle just called me and told me that the results show a massive fluid buildup in her body cavities, caused by one of four things.

1) a major heart attack (this is unlikely due to a recent stress test showing her heart was fine)

2) cancer (at least this can be fought)

3) liver failure

4) kidney failure

More tests are underway to try and figure out which one it is, but if it's 3 or 4, she's going to die. It's the same thing that killed my mom in October.

If I'm not back on for a while, I'm busy with this.

If I don't get back on, well, it was great to know all of you (even Seafort).

WTF is going on? First, a good friend of my wife's family lost his battle with stomach cancer; then some sh*t's up with Pete (plus his Dad's not well;) now this. Well, I so far haven't run out of prayer so whatever I can muster is with you and your grandmother, P. Could it be congestive heart failure without an actual, necrotic heart attack? If so, there's definitely a chance for recovery considering the indications from the clean stress test.

Possible, though I'm not sure what they consider "healthy" or "strong" for an 86 year old lady who's already had three triple bypass surgeries.

That was in January, that test. Since then, I suppose things could've gone downhill.

I'd offer a phone call but it'd make both of us bankrupt paying the bloody bill. Thoughts and prayers best wishes are with both of you.

She certainly sounds like a fighter, Tsu. As my grandpa would say, " she's too full of piss and vinegar not to fight". My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

Yeah, I went over to the hospital earlier; she's not doing well, but she's hanging in there.

I guess I had a decent weekend. Spent most of Saturday working on a research paper, but took advantage of the local Border's store's going-out-of-business-sale. I got 5 books for 27. Using the gift cards I went to take advantage of my out-of-pocket cost was $1.77. I'm sorry to see them go, but I got some decent books out of it

How bad was the storm here last night? Well, aside from the waves in the street... it blew and rained hard enough to crack the connector between the conduit from my electricity delivery cable and the meter box. That means that water was coming into the meter box and following the circuit path straight into the breaker in my main breaker panel (which I have remotely from my master panel.) THAT in turn means that the main breaker shit the bed, and I had no power from 4:00 am until a 20 minutes ago (11:00 am.) Thankfully I found an electrician who got his hands on a used main breaker to restore power until a permit can be gotten to redo the whole service from the roof down to the panel. $1 large later, and I can see indoors.
