Yes, Hawaii's intro into the US was a bit rough and not at all a happy one.

As for a computer being able to be programmed with information and being able to pull it up at will? Color me suprised . Although I think that the whole exercise was about computer/human interaction, and the computer came through with flying colors, a definite step forward.

The big deal with Watson isn't just that it has a massive database (it does), but that it's able to make logical connections to information based on sometimes illogical clues.

Interesting that they complain that the computer had a big advantage not in the quality of it's response, but the speed - it beat them to the buzzer a lot, basically. I find that quite telling... as soon as a computer can do a typically Human skill at all, it automatically wins because it does it faster and more efficiently. If - when - they get to a point where you can have a decent conversation with a computer, I imagine it might be quite disquieting to talk to somebody who always has a well thought out answer right then and there... never a hesitation to think, never a search for the right word to use, never tripping over a badly constructed sentence.
