Re: BETA SIM OOC THREAD
Just a note here on Intel Burns:
If and when you burn an operation will get a message along the lines of:
You Burned an [insert power of choice] [insert type] operation trying to gain information on your [insert field].
so to break that down....it means that the [power of choice] targeted you for an intel operation of [insert field] using the method [insert type]. The two types you'll see here are:
Black Ops: Black Operations sends in agents and spies to gain the information first hand. If you burn one of these you can either write the information reported back (and make it as dishonest or blatantly incorrect as you wish), or you can pick up the agent (a favorite of Beta SIM it seems) and have them tried/executed/deported/etc.
Comm Op: communications intel, this is the listening posts, the code breakers. There are no agents to pick up. when you get this your only option is to write the information to send back.

With all due respect, what on earth are we meant to write? I, having tried, don't have the creativity to write fake reports.
Re: BETA SIM OOC THREAD
I'm actually getting tired of writing these things. Someone is gonna enjoy their latest burned message.

Re: BETA SIM OOC THREAD
It doesn't have to be anything special.....Reliant you do a fairly good Klingon report on a burned operation......
The reports really can be anything you wish. From Insults (Klingons) to completely absurd reports indicating you burned them (Ferangi), or can actually be something lagit. If you don't really have any interest in it one of the other two will work fine, but there are several players who have used black ops burns in an attempt to foul up plans and mislead which direction their going. Hell I had one player use a black ops burn to report standard, believable information, nothing out of the ordinary, so that they could cover up the fact that they weren't building anything at all.

Yeah, the UFP news tends to be extremely biased to the point of stupidity. However that can benefit you as the more they try to mudsling the more often its because they are in the wrong and trying to cover it up for public opinion. Using that you can start shifting views.

You guys have to remember the news people don't know everything that you all know. They are not sitting in cabinet meetings or anything.

Re: BETA SIM OOC THREAD
Hmm... Here's an interesting idea to throw in as the sim develops, a wikileaks-type organization? Some bleeding-heart Federation type from the hippy, pre-DS9 TNG era federation who doesn't believe in something as underhanded as keeping confidences?BigJKU316 wrote:You guys have to remember the news people don't know everything that you all know. Re: BETA SIM OOC THREAD
How do I know what to leak and what not to leak though, how do I objectively decide what is and isn't accessable, what happens when something leaks that I think is insignificant, but turns out to be a major crux?
Since I'm behind the scenes and see it all it's not possible for me to act as a wiki-leaks person and do it fairly* or objectively.
*This assumes there is a fair way to leak classified information.

Re: BETA SIM OOC THREAD
Who says the organization has to be objective? Now, I may be mis-informed but there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to how they decide what to release, and I don't think anyone knows how high they can reach. Those issues, such as something that seems minor actually being major (say, the names of the afghans helping the US Forces) is what makes the idea so interesting and dynamic.Lt. Granted, I do not know the mechanics of the system the show-runners are operating in so it's mainly just a suggestion.
