His main problem is he didn't think that in the 60's they had the technology to perform orbital mechanics calculations. It was all I could do to not point out that you can do orbital mechanics calculations on a scratch pad with no more schooling than high school algebra. The equations are simple, it just requires some computing horsepower to do the numbers and while the ones they had in the 60's were primitive they were more than up to the task.

Yup, never mind that people proved the existence of planets based off orbital mechanics math that had to be done by hand.

I knew about this for a long time, but it never cease to amaze me the level of ingenuity our predecessors came up with for things we think should be out of their hand.
