First thing I do when back is to boot up in safe mode and uninstall every last of them.

Although the mouse & keyboard battery monitor was a nice feature...

If it was me man, I'd just say fuck in, and reinstall everything from the ground up.

SolkaTruesilver wrote:Darn. I tried to access my computer yesterday evening, and it seems to crash to hell whenever I try to do something with it, and just get to run into some weird loop.

I load Windows = a-ok.

But then..

- Try to open Firefox = gets into an infinite loop
- Try to open the Start Menu = gets into an infinite loop
- Try to open Avista user interface = gets into an infinite loop

Task Manager seems okay, however, and even in the infinite loop, I can still interface with it (but I can't seem to be able to open it DURING the loop). However, I can't shut down, let's say, Firefox, even using the processes.

The darnest thing is, 2 days ago, the computer was working fine. I ran Dawn of War 2 for hours on it, and went to multiple websites. When shutting down windows, there was some updates waiting for me. I did the classic Run Updates/Shut Down, and.. I am in my current predicament. :madashell:
What version of Windows are you installing. If it is XP then you need to install sp3 before you let it anywhere near the internet, otherwise you will have more viruses on the machine than you can cope with before the install is finished. If so you either need to get an updated XP install disk or download SP3 from another computer and then get it on to the 'broken' computer.

You need to do every windows update that is stated as critical. They're security updates.

I already did those.

The Windows Update I am mentionning is the update to be done while closing a computer.

Yes, but the issue is if you did those updated directly on the computer while connected to the internet then you can get infected whilst you are downloading the updates. Never let XP connect to the internet unless SP3 is installed. The time to infection on XP pre SP3 is about 10 seconds. Personally I would take each and every update that Microsoft provide.

Mentioned this before, but theres a nifty little program called CTUpdate that'll let you download all the updates for your Windows OS and Office version of choice onto another machine, and then copy the files onto disk, and then run the updates on your new windows machine without taking it online.

You might also want to look into bootable antivirus CD's. I think AVG do one. You can boot your computer off the CD and run a full antivirus scan with the computer itself running any programs.

Hum.. I think SP3 was one of the first updates I did after connecting to the internet again. It was the top priority on the Windows Update page.

Only Linux could make Apple's market share look significant.

Yeah, but it works so much better, well for those of us who enjoy our nerdiness and embrace it fully.

I can't miss it!
