Seriously. You could buy a tropical island, and build a sprawling estate/bunker complex for a tenth of that money.

It makes me think of a Hive World monstruous spire.

It certainly has that kind of mentality as motivation too.

Which I can get. Owning your own little island? Sign me up. Living in that thing... what's the point?

Seriously, what's the fucking point? Six floors of parking? Three helipads? 37,000 square feet of living space for four people? I'm a conservative and even I look at that and think, "Fuck dude, spread it around a bit." If you can't find something more useful to do with your money than that you probably shouldn't have it. Does this guy regularly hold parties for 200 people that he needs all that space?

Then with all the beautiful skyscrapers being built lately he's paying a billion for something that looks like the lair of a Saturday morning cartoon villain?

Fuck that guy.

I would say that is the point.

Yeah, but I think that misses the point. I'm betting he built this as a literal monument to his own wealth, something right in the middle of a city that NO one can possibly miss. It's only real purpose is to scream "I'm richer than you, bitch!"

Frankly I think he is just showing what an enviromentalist he really is. If he built a house with just one helipad he might have to waste gas waiting for the pad to clear from time to time. It really is just the responsible thing to do.

*sigh* You know, back in the good old days this kind of money would be spent on building a giant space laser or secret volcano base to threaten all the world's governments. People these days just don't know how to use their wealth properly.

No self respecting evil billionaire would hide his weather control machine in something that ugly.

I found the flaw in your argument. I think we are past the point that man still qualifies.

So what would you guys do if you had that sort of money? I quite like the idea of living atop of a skyscraper, but it'd have to be a functioning building.

Or a big cargo ship, and travel the world in relative solitude whilst the ship goes about its regular buisness. Or maybe an airfield somewhere. I can't imagine spending that much money on something that doesn't serve other purpose then just being big and expensive.

Very very hard question, in all honesty. I'd probably try to live in a small villa or mansion style building somewhere. Maybe in Wales or something like that. I'm absolutely petrified of heights, skyscraper is no use for me. Sailing isn't really my thing either. i'd like to live in an area where I could drive peacefully for a bit of fun and retire to my sanctuary with a partner, who I would hope I have.

Buy a small island somewhere in the south Pacific. Build a small landing strip on it, a large comfortable house that fits in with the scenery, and find about fifty very hot girls willing to work/lounge around topless all the time for a significant wage. I'd then install a couple surface to air missile batteries and shoot down any asshole who tried to crash the party.
