In other Deadliest Warrior new, Richard "Mack" Machowicz is going to be hosting season 3. I haven't researched this further but I do wonder what's going to happen with the other three chuckleheads they've got on there. They'll also be having a female warrior for the first time... I'm sure they'll handle that with taste and class.

Hey. Even if they make up the use and techniques of the weapons depicted, they don't make up the weapons.

I think?

If you want to claim that's a basis in reality that's stretching things.

However the Macuahuitl that the Aztec warriors used typically came in two varieties. Either one handed, long sword sized, or two handed, huge broadsword sized. The Macuahuitl they used for testing was in between, bastard sword sized. There's some play here given the last real surviving Macuahuitl was lost sometime in the... 1800's I think and they had to make their own but the one they made didn't represent a size the historical record suggests was in common use.

Yhea, the last one was lost in a fire.

I am curious if the historical Aztec warrior were smaller than us. If so, maybe it was done to the proper size, but not the right scale for us?

Given that the people writing down the accounts were Spaniards I doubt it would effect their description of the size of the sword. If the bastard sized sword they had on the show was the height of an Aztec then the Aztecs were pygmys.

I'd put money on her being portrayed as wearing a skimpy bra-like top and a loincloth.

Precisely what female warrior is it going to be?

I'd be quite surprised if the Aztecs weren't smaller than we are today, for the simple reason of us having a far superior modern diet and good medical knowledge.

That said, they wouldn't be that much smaller.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only guy who can appreciate a woman in full-plate.

No clue, but I haven't dug into this much.

That's a Dungeons and Dragons longsword. A real longsword had a couple of moves in the repertoire that involved releasing the sword with the off-hand a/o moving the off-hand onto the quillons, but it was a two-handed weapon. You're thinking of an arming sword or spatha derivative.

I'm wondering when the new downloadable characters will be available for the game.
They say that in the Army,
the women are mighty fine.
They look like Phyllis Diller,
and walk like Frankenstein.

The Deadliest Warrior: The Game.

It's a downloadable game onto Xbox 360, featuring some characters from season one in a Mortal Kombat style fighting game.

Just watched the interview with Mack and I have to say, I'm totally sold. I'd like to think that he's going to be the guy to look at the so-called experts and call them on crap or point out new ideas that so often get missed by the Black-Belt and Geek.

Indeed, while some people have felt that he sometimes got a bit self-important as the host of "Futureweapons," the fact is that a former USN SEAL is a bit more trustworthy than a pair of lab nerds who decide the efficacy of a weapon on how "cool" a wound it makes on a dead hog.

It's certainly a decent idea. Hell, if he does indeed give the show the kick up the arse it requires I may even start watching it.
