Robert McCall - aka the Equalizer. Before he retired naturally. And possibly his boss Control, making Bowties cool decades before Matt Smith.

Darius Jedburgh from Edge of Darkness - the BBC original miniseries, not the crappy Mel Gibson remake.

John Clark from the Tom Clancy Novels. He was out on the sharp end of the stick and kicked some major butt. Every time I read his parts in the book, I think of Chuck Norris as the character who should play him in a movie, not Liev Schriber in that Sum of All Fears crap.

Is he the main character in anything other than Rainbow Six?

That was actually the first book ever I couldn't get through.

Beat me to it. Without Remorse is a really good book. He uses a Savage .22 with a scope and a home made (machined) silencer and shot baddies in the head at 100+ yds, even allowing for movement. Now THAT'S sniping.

I might check that one out. I loved all of the other Tom Clancy books I read, but Rainbow Six just read like pure corporatist propaganda, IMO.
