I wonder how far down the scales go 8)
They say that in the Army,
the women are mighty fine.
They look like Phyllis Diller,
and walk like Frankenstein.

Depends, building and expanding construction yards is lump sum. R&D has an overall price which is divided over the course of the project.
Actually R&D is deducted all at once and then takes a certain number of years to finish, at least on ships.

You pay for weapons and torps and other special projects as you go.

Ship design all comes out at once, mostly to free up the cells calculating the cost for you next project.

Feel free to PM that. Minus the cropping, of course.

no problem, I'm hoping to find out by tomorrow, and I'll make the appropriate adjustments so that we can do sheets by this weekend.

How detailed do we need to be? For instance if I have a "Home" fleet who's duties are the usual interdict smugglers/enforce the law type schtick do I need to detail exactly where they all are at any given time? If a group is supposed to be "Patroling the border" do I need to lay out specifically which star systems and at what time the are to be there?

So far I've just put a "home" fleet at my home system and its assumed to do the smuggling, law enforcement etc so far as I know. And with the patrolling the border, as the fleets location put "patrol: So and so border". For example I could have the Alpha fleet's home base as system 219 and its location "patrol: Federation Border" (picked entirely at random).

Just want to make sure the game boss is in on it. I'd hate for him to say, "Your home system is incredibly secure but the other 97% of your space is a lawless hell hole."
