Best guess, it's a four year old system. It was already a little iffy on start up at times and probably a bit stressed. Loading up a game like Starcraft was enough that the load finally cooked some part of it.

I also have returned. I spent a few days staying at Skytop Lodge resort in Canadensis in the Pennsylvania Poconos, the main lodge of which is pictured below:

Not my first choice for a vaca - that would involve a tropical beach or something similar - but it was some nice reflective time with beautiful areas for walks, butterfly gardens, lawn bowling, etc.; plus some good family time with mini-golf, canoeing, lots of swimming, and the like.

BTW, @ Ian - I had the opportunity to try the Macallan's Fine Oak 10-year-old. Pretty good, but not at all what i expected. To me, it had a very pristine, clean taste without much of the smokiness or peatiness I had come to expect... probably a result of not absorbing any tannin esters from the previous tenant of the barrel.

The State of Maryland has requested that personnel of my position be assigned to regular service schools after the recent success of our first two years.

AKA, now the civis think they should take over for the Feds and then throw a bunch of hippy/PC rules in the mix. Already within the first 48hrs of the news. I've been told they want all of us to go to the local school board for sensitivity training. Also, civilian teachers are going to be brought in to work with us. Because when I had two students try to kill me last year, one of which came close to succeeding, what I really need is also to watch after some skinny geek who's closest experience to violence is playing Halo.

My term of service ended in 09, I stayed only to finish out the year and because I liked my students. It may be a pride or ego issue with me but I don't think I'm going to stay if the civis take over and start messing with the program.

Well...

I got up about 3:40 AM to get to the Manchester airport about 5 AM for check-in and security checks. I wiled away an hour for my 6:20 boarding. The flight to Chicago wasn't too bad. The flight from Chicago to Salt Lake City featured a 20-minute delay and snarky flight attendants who sang badly over the plane's PA system. :madashell:

Kathy met me at baggage with a bottle of water. :D And this time my stomach decided not to revolt on me. Spent a bit of the day with her until she had to go prepare for her role in a musical revue that was raising money for the Huntsman anti-cancer institute. Hung out at the Harold Lee Library until her friend picked me up and drove me there. Said friend then drove us back to Kathy's apartment, where Hillary, the person I was staying with, picked me up. No boys in her apartment after midnight, you see.

Next day I took her to lunch and we went to where I took the above picture. Can't remember the name. Went up to Cascade Springs with Hillary and her family while Kathy did two more sold-out shows. Sunday I spent with Kathy. We watched Genesis and Remembrance of the Daleks, went to church and had family supper over Hillary's with Hillary's family. Went back to Kathy's apartment where she had choir practice, then back to Hillary's. Although I managed to properly say goodbye, unlike 2007 where things were a bit rushed. Kiss on the cheek for both of us. :D :D

Then flew back to NH Monday morning/afternoon. Missing her, but not quite as much as before. *Happy sigh*

As stated in another thread, and my eponimous hash of the sim thread, my dad had second heart attack scare tonight. Just another murmur in reality, but it was a fair bit bigger.

It's his job. That damn place is going to kill him. One of the kids did a runner today, and theres fuck all he can do about it. Just holding out for his starter in october.

Best thing to stop a runner is to just shoot them, don't bother with chasing them.

....I think dad would get fired for shooting a 13 year old....as well as arrested.

Scratch that, He'd be arrested for carrying the gun.

I don't mean with bullets. Beanbags and Tasers work well enough though, at least I think they do. Or you can put shock collars on them, ankles or necks doesn't really matter.

Unfortunately thats the problem. Under our social working law, dad is not permitted to force them to stay in the building. He tries, and the courts will chew him into cheese.

Then just let them go, not worth his health to worry about them.

He's like me. Worry worry worry, panic panic panic. We've developed a culture were social workers are blamed for...well everything, when a child is concerned. Something goes wrong, dad gets blamed, thats it. Career gone.

Luckily, the police picked the little bugger up. Poor kid.
