Re: Star Trek Sim discussion
Just a general message here as I have already contact some of the most impacted parties.
I honestly spent a huge chunk of Friday and then Monday trying to sort out stuff I was not copied on. I just don't have hours each week to reconstruct what happened just so I can run things. I am trying very hard to be prompt as what I don't want is for the game to loose momentum. To do that I have to have the information as soon as it comes avaliable so I can be working ahead rather than behind everyone.
Essentially if I don't get copied I am just going to fill in the holes with the options of not good, bad and really bad. I am not trying to be a dick about it but I have like 30 emails and 30 PM's with ONE player trying to get an explaination for what he was up to. I just can't invest that sort of time when were I just copied it would have taken me 20 minutes.
I clearly have a fair amount of free time or I would not be doing this. I enjoy it as a worthile diversion that has been good for plenty of fun and laughs along the way. But it is neither fun nor terribly interesting to play 20 questions with players trying to sort out what happened and why after the fact. It takes up a huge amount of time that is not necessary if things are just done right the first time.
I don't have a problem giving as much time as is necessary most weeks to get things done timely, but I do get a bit agitated when I have to spend a lot more time that would otherwise be necessary because people won't follow a pretty basic rule. Because of that not copying me on diplomatic stuff has a better than even chance of blowing up in your face.

Re: Star Trek Sim discussion
I'm going ahead out of character here to say that this Cardassian incident is bullsh*t.
I didn't have any forces in the vicinity of 372.
I didn't order any attack.
I didn't even order the colonization of 373.
We were in the middle of a discussion.
Now, if Mark ordered forces to 373, that's one thing. Why in the hell would my own forces be out of place by dozens of light-years, and be able to launch an attack without my knowledge or permission?

Big is setting you both down for failing to cc him on everything.
He stated before that if things were left open, he'd make it bad for the people who were involved.

See what you've done! Now thanks to you we're all going to be drawn into a quadrant-wide war!

Depends on if they want a war or not. Remember that neutral space is just that, neutral, so both powers are free to respond in whatever way they wish. They can stomp at each other for a bit and play a PR game. They can go the "Horrible mistake, lets make nice" rout or there's conflict. Either a small local brush/border war between them or total war between the two alliances.Sonic Glitch wrote:See what you've done! I am not sure what you want from me. I have practically begged you guys to copy me on stuff over the past few months. I sent you an email personally on the subject (last week) of making sure I got copied and the reply I got was basically...well now that its done it really does not matter. Well it does. A great deal in terms of my time invested into figuring things out.Tsukiyumi wrote:I'm going ahead out of character here to say that this Cardassian incident is bullsh*t.

You have forces patrolling your border. They mistook a convoy outbound from CU territory as heading in the wrong way and made a mistake. The convoy moves very slowly as they are civilians and your ships are very quick. It would not take long at all to get there and the ships can hardly run away. Like I said to you both in private it could have gone either way as I simply rolled for the result.
The penalty may be too harsh, I have no idea. But I have tried lesser things that have gotten us nowhere. I have tried reminding people both individually and in the discussion thread and that is getting me nowhere either. If I am just kept in the loop none of this is necessary.
But at the moment I am missing a huge amount of coversation between the Tueri and Breen and the Cardassians and Breen and the Tueri and Shelliak. I tried as best I could to piece it all together, but again, there is only so much time in a week.

So, let me get this straight: since you didn't see a conversation between me and Mark, my ships automatically attacked an unarmed convoy? Even though they have standing orders (from the start of the game) to not fire unless fired upon?

It was a coin flip, who traveled where and who shot who. Coin said CU ships moved, coin said BC ships fired.Tsukiyumi wrote:So, let me get this straight: since you didn't see a conversation between me and Mark, my ships automatically attacked an unarmed convoy? Okay, I'll work around this incident. No problemo.
I'll CC Big on EVERYTHING from now on.

I've also pissed of the Romulan Empire and the Sheliak. I'm not liking my home security status much right now
But yes, CC'ing everything is the key to success. or at least, the key to not being fucked to hell.

Essentially yes. I fully admit it is very harsh but I also spent hours trying to reconstruct things to make some level of sense based on the fragments I was getting.Tsukiyumi wrote:So, let me get this straight: since you didn't see a conversation between me and Mark, my ships automatically attacked an unarmed convoy? Even though they have standing orders (from the start of the game) to not fire unless fired upon?
Look, I don't have a problem being fair. I am fully willing to retcon this out of existance (because it was intended as a lesson for the most part) so long as everyone agrees that going forward I get copied on all diplomatic conversations. This turn took me 2 to 3 times as much effort this past week to keep together. I don't mind that for a major war, but I do mind taking that time when people are just too stubborn to copy me a simple diplomatic message.
Again, you can even talk about it amongst yourselves then just stage a show for me when you copy messages to one another. But I need to be in the loop or I can't make it work.
I am doing the retcon because I like all of you and don't want to ruin your work on my whim (I was also having a bad day). And thinking about it it does suck for Tsuki to come out in the wrong on a coin flip when Mark was eqally as wrong.
So final decision here.
THE BREEN DID NOT SHOOT AT THE CARDASSIANS. THE CARDASSIANS DID NOT BOMB A BREEN PLANET IN RESPONSE. EDIT ALL MESSAGES RELATED TO THAT ACCORDINGLY PLEASE. ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION OF THIS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
However the rest happened as written...including Nick setting off whatever he set off wherever he did it.
