Couple of Questions For You British Folks
I have a couple of questions for those of you in the UK.
First, what's the minimum wage over there (per hour)?
Second, have any of you heard of Deepside Independent? According to their website, one of their main buildings is located at 18 George Street, Stroud, Gloucestershire GL5 3DX.
I recently approached for a possible job position. Everyone in my family fear that it's a scam.
Thank you.

I believe minimum wage is age dependent, but I'm pretty sure if you're over 21 its something like £5.40 per hour.

Okay...
The company is offering 19.50 USD per hr. for part-time, which seems to convert to 12.75 GBP. Is this unheard of as a starting salary?

Depends what you are doing, but that seems fairly high.

£5.80 per hour for age 22 and olderVarthikes wrote:I have a couple of questions for those of you in the UK.

£4.83 per hour for age 18-21
£3.57 per hour for under 18 and finished compulsory education
Never heard of them, but they show up on google as the number one result for their name, so they are have probably been around a while. On the other hand that's the ONLY hit on google concerning them... people don't seem to talk about them, they don't hit the news...?Second, have any of you heard of Deepside Independent? I tried several other search engines, as well.
They don't come up there, either. Not even their site, for some reason, at least not within the first 10 pages.

Hm. I don't suppose we have any members near that area of Gloucestershire who could stop by and see if the place does indeed exist?

The website appears to have gone but is there as a cached copy on Google? Might just be my connection I guess.
Just a thought. Did they approach you regarding the position? How did they know you were looking for a job? From my own experience, I've been a member of several job sites on the internet and received one or two scam emails along the way. Did you receive an unsolicited email in this manner seemingly offering you a position?

If there is a problem, it must be on their end, because I'm not connecting with their site either, now.
They said that they came across my resume on one of those job searching sites.

Would you care to copy and paste the letter they sent to you here? Don't worry if not as I appreciate it's personal stuff...it's just that such letters never read 'quite right' in English which give away the foreign scam aspect of it...
Alternatively, try a scam database like this one:

Yeah, if you put your e-mail out there in a big way you're going to get scams. I tried to sell a car last year and I made the mistake of putting my e-mail address in the listing. I got hit with a scam e-mail nearly every other day.

I had that too! In broken English...a guy who wanted to buy my car without even looking at it etc....'consider it sold!' it said yadda yadda...Tyyr wrote:Yeah, if you put your e-mail out there in a big way you're going to get scams. I might have accidentally deleted that original e-mail, but I have the subsequent e-mails from them.
I checked that database, did a search. Nothing about them there.
