Plumbing. One of my least favourite exercises.

Re: What's the latest in people's lives?
All started with a $3 flush lever. When I went to remove the old one, the plastic reverse nut on the inside of the tank stripped, so I couldn't budge it with a strap wrench, adjustable wrench, or pliers. I told my wife that I felt if I pushed it anymore, the tank would crack. So, she came home one day, pushed it, and cracked the tank. Of course, my crapper was old enough that I couldn't just get a new tank because they use 3" flush valves now instead of my old 4" one.
So... while the plumber was out, we fixed the head and handle that was leaking into the wall, and then the loose handle in another shower...

I'll do basic fixture work but when it comes to piping I farm plumbing out to the professionals. When something goes wrong with the plumbing its never a little problem.
In other news, my boy busted his chin open and I've got to go to the hospital to help out as he gets stitches.

The joys of having a son. I trust he did it doing something reckless and inadvisable.

Balancing on the back of an overturned toy truck to try and snatch a snack down from the top of a bookshelf. Ingenious and dangerous. Slipped, nailed his chin on a book shelf and busted it open. The second time he's done it to. The kid's three and a half and he's already had to get stitches twice.

Typical boy. I've already gotten in the habit of telling my 14-month-old to "rub some dirt on it."

New Toilet? Body temerature heated seat? Automic bum washing spray? Magazine Rack? That will be my Throne of Power when I'm rich.Mikey wrote:New toilet installed, two new shower control handles, new shower head, and 3 hours of labor.

It has a magazine rack and I guess technically the seat is heated by ass heat.

Well at that rate, he's going to build up a good tolerance to pain. Though if he keeps taking it in the face, I'm not sure what his dating prospects are going to be.Tyyr wrote:Balancing on the back of an overturned toy truck to try and snatch a snack down from the top of a bookshelf. I leave most major plumbing and electrical work to people far more skilled than I.

In general, so do I. As I said, I could've repaired a simple flush lever easily. Once it came to replacing a toilet, that's when I called in the professional. Similarly, I was able to put a bead of sealant on the faceplate of the shower handle; but to fit a new sleeve and continue it inside the wall, that's contacted work.

Of course, he could claim that they're battle scars. "Pain heals, chicks dig scars; but glory lasts forever."

Re: What's the latest in people's lives?
In an interesting triple post of completely unrelated items... jellyfish suck. My daughter and I both got stung by sea nettles today. The stings weren't terrible - my dad once was stung by a sea wasp, and boy howdy was that a mess - but it was bad enough to be a huge annoyance, and not something through which I wanted to see my little girl suffer.
I guess I should be glad that we don't get box jellies or Portuguese men-o'-war around here. We were at the bay today, and will be at the ocean tomorrow; hopefully better water quality (lower solubles, higher oxygenation) will mean less jellies.
