Re: Deadliest Warrior
They are just pulling this shit out of their ass.
Waffen SS vs. Viet Cong
AK-47? Nope.
MP-40? Nada.
MP-44? Are you kidding?
RPG-7? No where to be seen.
Mauser 98K? Get serious.
MG42? Not even close.
Luger or P38? Who?
No, they won't go with anything like that. The MP-fucking-28 was the Waffen SS's main gun as was the MAT-49 for the Cong. The best part is all their introduction vids for the two groups featured all those weapons in that list prominently.
I mean... just... what the fuck man?

Re: Deadliest Warrior
I would have thought that even the MP40 or the Karabiner 98 was in there....Half the world plays CoD games, and those weapons are pretty damn famous amongst them.

So how bad was the SS wank in that episode?

Re: Deadliest Warrior
The standard fanboyism the "experts" on this show always indulge in. The guy's designation as an "expert" is severely in question though as he stood there and extolled the virtues of the MP28 as the finest submachine gun of the war.
Now technically they might have been right as it's predecessor the MP18 was one of the finest sub guns of the war. The first one.

Re: Deadliest Warrior
Are you sure they didn't just call it the "oldest" SMG of the war?

Re: Deadliest Warrior
I haven't even seen the MP28 listed as a weapon in use by the German Army in WWII. Only as a precursor to the 38 and 40. I'm sure somewhere in Germany some schmuck was handed a MP28 and told to make do but to characterize it as a mainstay weapon in the Waffen SS, it boggles the mind.

Re: Deadliest Warrior
No SMG would have been a "mainstay." I can see leaving out the sturmgewehr because of its unavaialbility early and relatively small production numbers, but the schutzstaffel used SMG's the way everyone else did - one or two per squad.

Re: Deadliest Warrior
However AK-47 on the Cong side vs. StG44 on the German's would have been a fair and pretty even match up. The StG44 never went into huge production but it attained a fair concentration in some SS units. The killer is that the two sides could actually match up fairly well if you wanted to do it.
AK-47 vs. StG44
SKS vs. 98K
RPD vs. MG42
F1 grenade vs. Stick grenade
All comparable in form and function. A very solid and believable set up of weapons on both sides.

Yeah, figured they'd be given the win.

Why do people re-read Blackstar's dumbassery?
