Re: Weapons and Warfare
So neither of them are likely to have an advantage in accuracy?

Re: Weapons and Warfare
I'd say with Jesse's rifle would be the only weapon with any accuracy. But then, I have no clue what Capone era weapon they'll match up against it.
I'm GUESSING that they'll have Capone with the .45, and the Tommygun. No clue what else they'll use.

Re: Weapons and Warfare
50 cals maybe? If they gave the IRA flamethrowers, who knows what they'll define as suitable weapons.

In that case, maybe they'll give Jesse a gatling gun?Captain Seafort wrote:50 cals maybe? If they gave the IRA flamethrowers, who knows what they'll define as suitable weapons.

Re: Weapons and Warfare
Clyde Barrow was known to use a sawn-down BAR, but he was the exception. Nothing bigger than a Tommy gun was commonly used because being able to hoof it out of a bad spot was an important consideration, and nobody they were likely to encounter would have been wearing body armor.
What sort of rifle would they give James? My guess would be a Spencer or Henry, maybe a Springfield trap-door. The Spencer was a bit underpowered; the Henry was as well, and those .44-40 rimfires tended to follow a flight path that looked like a rainbow. The best rifle of the time in terms of accuracy and power was the Remington rolling block, available in most cartridge chamberings, but like the Springfield it wasn't a repeater.

The original Yellow Boy was, IIRC, .45 American, but later models may have been made for the Win .44-40 or the SW .45 Russian.Mark wrote:I would have guessed a Winchester lever action......not sure what calliber though.

Re: Weapons and Warfare
Come on, Deadliest Warrior hasn't made a lick of sense since the pirate/knight episode when the tested the blunderbuss and found that it was a killing shot maybe 50% of the time, at short range with the knight having no shield and the grenade not being able to penetrate armor when it was practically laying on top of it. And yet, those two were the main killing weapons of the pirate.
Spetznaz vs. Green Berets was even worse with ridiculous uncomparable weapons tests against some of the most similar weapons they've ever had a chance to rate.
It's literally a joke. It's amusing to watch the weapons get used (taken individually some are actually good demonstrations of what the weapons are capable of) and the fanboys posture. Beyond that, it's crap. They rarely factor in armor (probably because real armor is expensive) and when they do it's not representative of what happens in battle.
In their defense I will say that you have to assume the warriors are equally skilled and just test their gear. You can definitively test their gear (not that the show does) and come to conclusions. You can't argue that William Wallace would be Shaka Zulu because of his "XXXXX" style of combat is superior to Zulu's "YYYY" style. They get a pass on that one from me.

Re: Weapons and Warfare
A prevew showed Capone's boys using brass knuckles as well. Jesse seems to use his knife as well, and i THINK I saw a shotgun in use.

...brass knuckles? Really? That's great if you're beating up a guy or in a fist fight, but bringing knucks to a gun fight...Mark wrote:A prevew showed Capone's boys using brass knuckles as well. Jesse seems to use his knife as well, and i THINK I saw a shotgun in use.

You could always have them in your off hand in case things got to CQ.

Re: Weapons and Warfare
Maybe, but if you do, that hand isn't going to be good for really anything else, the knucks are going to make it near impossible to hold anything tightly, and they take too long to put on or take off. A good knife will do more damage, have slightly better range, and can be drawn a lot faster if things somehow turn into a melee fight.

Re: Weapons and Warfare
It's deadliest warrior. Sometimes it's the actual weapons they might have used but most of the time its the most stereo-typical.

I think this warrants its own thread at this point.
