To be fair, Tyyr, it's hardly a girl's name either. I figured it was a girl because of the English convention of an "-a" ending being feminine; but by all rights, "McKenna" is an Irish surname, not a first name.

Mistranslation of non-English names has contributed, too. "Sasha," for example, is a nickname for the Russian (and related) male name "Alexander," but is often used in English as a feminine name.

That's what I mean - correctly, "Sasha" is a male nickname - for the male name "Alexander" - but because it's inflected as a female name would be in English, "Sasha" gets used as a female name.
