Cool, Nick! Is that last night's moon? Looks like it as I was outside with my telescope doing a little stargazing myself (rare, clear sky). Even saw a clearly defined, although small image of Saturn around about mid-night. Not surprising it's small....it is approximately 794 million miles from us at it's closest

Yup, last night, clear black sky. Looked gorgeous, and I could clearly see a ton of constellations.

A benefit of living some miles away from the big city, even if you like to visit! I may never have really seen a proper night sky.

A benefit of living some miles away from the big city, even if you like to visit! I may never have really seen a proper night sky.

Hey kids! Like Doug MacArthur, or a bad penny, I have returned. Sorry to cause any concern, and I guess I owe a brief explanation. When I made my comment about the local paramedics, I had had a severe hypoglycemic reaction ("insulin shock.") Severe as in if the EMT's hadn't revived me with smelling salts and helped me eat something, things would have very much rested in my reaction to a glucagon shot (sort of like an adrenaline shot a la Pulp Fiction, but to hyperactivate glucose production rather than heart rhythm.) I won't be so maudlin as to say that I nearly died, because I live in a modern Western nation; but I certainly was near to a short-term coma and a bit of a hospital stay.

Well, after that I sort of took stock of things and evaluated my perspective, and sort of went on a modern suburban walkabout - ditched the cell phone, went to visit some the less-close family for some time. All of which was neatly capped up by seeing the Broadway revival of Hair on Saturday.

The good news: Hair merits its Tony and then some. It preserved all the spirit, charisma, and nonconformism (of theatrical production) that I'm led to believe that the original Papp production had, plus some excellent performances. It was probably among the top three or four shows I've ever seen. If you live in the Western Hemisphere, I urge you to make your way to Manhattan to see it. And if you do, I urge you to sit in the orchestra rather than the mezzanine or balcony - it provides much easier access to get on stage for the "be-in"/dancing with the cast after the curtain call. The bad news: according to their website, the video of the "be-in" for the performance I attended is unavailable due to "technical reasons," so I can't provide you with the visual evidence of me making a fool of myself dancing onstage.

I've spent most of today with pretty severe abdominal pains which is...not fun. I have an incredibly high pain threshold, meaning I can tolerate it quite easily. But i've also had a heavy headache mixed in, making it more challenging to cope with.
