True, however even so. They still would have taken far greater losses then the Empire would have taken.
Would he have gotten reconstructive surgery a sight better than the end of ROTS?
Doubt it. If he was going to do so then he would have.

Yeah, I don't think Vader really gave a damn about his looks. It did lead to a rather amusing moment in one of the books, Tales of the Bounty Hunters. Some Imperial officer was trying to get permission to front a medical bill to the empire to have cosmetic surgery to reduce his big nose, and he was stupid enough to bring the request to Vader. Vader's responce: I have no interest in wasting time or money on pointless cosmetic surgery for you. If your large nose bothers you so much, perhaps I should remove my mask. Then you would see how little you have to complain about.

I remember the scene... just not in that novel. *Shrugs* I'm probably wrong.

And i don't know. he tried using the Force to heal himself in 'Shadows of the Empire'. he did have a bit of an ego, after all.

He had an ego, but the suit was also a serious liability for him, as RotJ proved. Besides which, if you were stuck in that thing wouldn't you want to be out of it?

Well, not all of it is suit. All of his limbs are robotic, as are (I think) his lungs, or at least they are robotically assisted.

Artificial limbs aren't the problem - they're common enough and reliable enough that he wouldn't be slowed down, and may well be faster and stronger than before. The big problems are due to his respiratory and spinal injuries, which make him reliant on the suit for his life, and the artificial replacements are extremely vulnerable to damage. He'd never be able to regenerate limbs, but he demonstrated in SotE that he could regenerate his lungs. It was a temporary effect, but it proved the theory. Whether or not he'd be able to repair the damage to his spine is untested.

I don't know about the spinal injuries either, but yeah. All the rest of his stuff could be repaired. I almost wanna say Palps kept him like that to keep him under his thumb. I might've heard that somewhere, but it could also be fanon. *Shrug*

Parts of Vader's spine have been replaced with mechanical parts, so I doubt they'd have much trouble fixing his back.

Remember the Noghri? Its not unlike the Empire to keep something damaged and say they're repairing it.
How many Minbari does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.

What does that have to do with Vader's health?

It gives the Empire in general, and Sith in particular, a track record of actively preventing a recovery that would otherwise be possible in order to keep the victims of said damage enslaved. I wouldn't be out of character for Palpatine to actively prevent Vader from recovering from his injuries, both to keep him reliant on Palpatine for his continued survival, and to remove a potential threat (true, that didn't work out, but it did render Vader's rebellion an act of self-sacrifice. Somewhat counter-productive for a coup).

something I thought important to bring up....we were infact dealing with Anakin Skywalker not Vader....the act of saving his son or what ever caused him to change back in the end...which is why we have the Anakin blue-spirit thing at the end of RotJ.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

The question we brought up is would he stay Anakin or turn back to being Vader?

Indeed, and even if we were dealing with Anakin (it's not as if the two are easily separable - the names are simply an easy way of referring to facets of the same person) that isn't a guarantee that he'd be opposed to the Empire - he was always a great fan of highly centralised government.

Vader was a piece of the Imperial Machine. Anakin was a fanatic for it. Safe bet is that we'd be safer with Vader running it vs Anakin.
