Around here, the kids that you guys would call "chavs" often dress with what they call a "sag" - wearing baggy pants with a waist loose enough to actually fall about halfway down their asses. Like Deep said, it's an attempt at fake gangsta bravado... about a decade ago, the trend was to wear sweatpants with one leg rolled up. At the time, wearing one or both legs rolled up on the inside indicated time served.

Its a tough guy thing. In prison, clothes tend to hang loose because of sizing. However, what most boys in high school don't know (of which I love telling them just for the looks on their faces) is that to wear your pants below your butt means that another man already owns your butt and there for they have to ask his permission before they can have their way with you.
The version I heard was that they hand low in prison because they're not allowed belts (lest they hang themselves). Thus the young do it to suggest that they've been in prison and are therefore tough guys.

I was reffering to your occasional comments about how you have to slap one or two kids around every now and again. I never could understand why that was necessary until now.

Why in the hell would they do that? Surely actual "gangstas" would wear their trousers properly, yes? A bit hard to escape from the guards if you have to stop every few metres to pull your trousers back up.

Also, a minor nitpick, but it's the Brits that call them "Chavs". We call them "Knackers".

One of the funniest things I EVER saw was this "wannabe" was at the 50th state fair in Hawaii. Now, he already looks like an ass wearing a thick Oakland Raiders coat in 80 degree tropical weather.....but I digress.

Honolulu Police Department Officers pick up overtime doing security for state events like this, so when he stated getting stupid, the actual police showed up not security. While he's getting questioned, he lets go of his pants, and his gun falls out of his pants and hits the ground. In Hawaii that is SOOOO illegal. Was funny to watch. If he had his pants on correctly, the gun never would have fallen out of his waistband.

You're right to a point. To have your pants hang low on your hips is a common thing in Prison for the reason you stated. To have your pants hung below your ass means you're owned and off limits so long as you don't cause trouble.

I'd love for one of those idiots to be forced to run... and trip on their own sagging pants, go sprawling and land in a most undignified manner. :happydevil:

I've seen that here too. The kids complain about how hot they are and how they are starting to feel sick to which we point and say "if you take off your jacket and hoody and hat then you might feel better". Most do so, some roll their eyes, some passout. My fav is that last one. The thump of a human skull against a nice solid floor is just funny to me. That or when they fall asleep on their desks and I walk over and punch the desk just hard enough to make their heads bounce. Okay, sometimes I hit a little harder then I need to... 8)

The downside to the job, other then dealing with kids who may just try to kill you one day, is the ever present fear for people of getting sued or fired. I'm a young teacher with college debt and low pay. WTF do they think they're going to get from me?

The only thing having served time in prison means to me is:
1) You're stupid enough to have been caught.
2) Your farts are probably silent no matter what you do.
