Tie Defenders are so broken in XWA it's not even funny. I made a scenario recently--Two VSDs on each side, two squads Tie/D one squad gunboats vs two squads A-Wings one squad B-Wings, but the rebels get three waves and the imps get two. Same level AIs on each side. The Imperial side never loses more than one or two Defenders to the complete obliteration of the rebels, but the point value of each side is nearly identical.Deepcrush wrote:Tie Defenders are AWSOME!
Worst ship design in sci-fi?

Oh yes, they're supposed to be awesome. Their power level in XWA was just about right. It's just that one Tie/D could take on three A-Wings, but you'd only get 3/2 as many points for killing a Tie/D as you would an A-Wing.
Since you use the point value of opposing forces to tell if they're balanced, putting defenders into the mix means that the imperial side will always beat a rebel side that's worth the same number of points. It's like a broken unit in a table-top wargame or something.

I don't think I remember that... unless you mean Star Wars Arcade, that also has the lightsaber battles and takes you through all three movies and is awesome?RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:I don't think I've ever played XWA. Actually... haven't played many SW games at all. My favorite's still the old arcade flyer, with the polygon graphics and Obi-Wan intoning, "Use the Force, Luke!"

X-Wing Alliance, I think.
And I think by 'broken' he means that the TIE/D is an excelent ship, but you don't get as many points as you should for killing one in the game.

Nope. It was a sit-down booth. Mikey, I think, knows what I'm talking about. You do the Death Star battle from ANH.Jordanis wrote:I don't think I remember that... unless you mean Star Wars Arcade, that also has the lightsaber battles and takes you through all three movies and is awesome?RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:I don't think I've ever played XWA. I think I remember that game. Was there the option for a 2 player mode?
