The Ranting Thread

Post by Sionnach Glic »

Because I need a place to rant right now, I figured I'd open a thread up for everyone.

So, to get things started. Earlier today my mobile died on me, with the result that I had to walk 20 minutes in lashing rain to get home, rather than getting a lift. Well, that doesn't bother me too much. It's only a bit of water, and I have plenty of fresh clothes at home to change into. The real annoyances start about an hour later.

Since my phone is dead, I decided I'd drop up to the nearest phone shop and get a new one. Everything went fine. I got a nice, cheap phone (Nokia 2630) that came with €120 free complimetary credit. I got to keep my old number and everything.

So I got home, flicked through the manual, put my sim card and battery into the phone and turned it on. Right, the phone turns on. Still fine. I put my PIN code in, and it starts up fine. Great. Then it suddenly says "Phone Restricted, Please Enter Restriction Code". 30 minutes of searching both the packaging and the online support services for both Nokia and Meteor (the service provider) ensue, following which I can find not a single mention of such a restriction code. I attempted to call up the Meteor helpline, and was given the generic "you're message is important to us, but we're going to stick you on hold for the next hour anyway". I then tried the Nokia helpline and achieved similar success.

Getting rather annoyed, I called up the shop I had bought the mobile in earlier. I got onto the guy who sold me the phone, who revealed that it would take about 24 hours before the phone would actually accept my sim card, for some weird reason. There was not a single mention of this on any of the online support pages, or in the phone's manual itself.

So I'm now without a phone for the next day or so, all because some genius thought it would be a great idea to stick a retarded "security" feature that dissappears within one day and causes nought but aggravation. Fucking morons.

Well, the €120 isn't all at once. Every time you buy €20 credit, they'll give you an extra €20 free.

Funny........my rant is about my cell also. I use a carrier called Mobi which is local to Hawaii. For $55 a month, I get unlimited everything. Now, part of the package is picture messaging. I can get inbound pictures from every other carrier EXCEPT Sprint......so cosmic justice demands that most people (women) are sending me pics of themselves from they're SPRINT phones.

I call customer service.....spend an hour on hold getting passed around. The girl asks how many people are routinely trying to send me picture messages from Sprint. I tell her two regurlarly. She says I need to find more people to try and send me messages. Only then will they help me.

I politely ask WTF. I'm paying for a service that I'm not reciving. She says "I'm so sorry you feel that way, thanks for calling.".........click.

They actually stand over you during the act and frown?

As long as they don't start trying to critique the performance, they and watch and frown all they want.

I have had just about enough of two particular girls in my RE class.

My best friend at school is a Bangladeshi muslim, and she has quite obvious asian skin colour (as you would expect). she wears the full ḥijāb head-dress, and covers her arms as she should. She's quite staunch in her faith, and while I disagree on several levels with how intensely she follows islam, I dont have a problem with her and she has no issue with me.

well, it seems that others are particularly narrow minded. It started as we were examining Gandhi in RE. The two girls at the back of the class (A constant thorn in mrs. McClarnon's side) kept shouting at Mrs. McClarnon because she supposedly mispelt Gandhi's name (they incorrectly believed it spelt as Ghandi). I turned round and said it was correct, perfectly politely. They were adamant it was incorrectly spelt, and then rather pathetically accused Mrs. McClarnon of being "disrespectful" to Gandhi. Reema turned around and said that it might well be spelt correctly both ways, being an Gujarati name its quite likely it has multiple spellings. They started having a bitch about it being none of Reema's business, and then one of them went completely AWOL and started telling Reema to "go back to India" and go home to Gandhi. Never mind the fact that India and Bangladesh are entirely different on so many levels let alone geographically.

I just find it so infuriating that they attack her more because she is asian, muslim and actually far more intelligent than they will ever be.

I doubt that the root of these people's vitriol was in fact in purposeful bigotry; I find it more likely that they were embarrassed at being "shown up" by someone with greater knowledge, and lashed out with any weapons that they saw at hand.

No excuse for that sort of comment, though.

I think this is probably why they are being such bitches, above anything.

Is there anything more cruel in this world than teenage girls? I think not.
