Do those tail blades have anything on them that could be used as a handle?

Not really. The base itself is fairly thick, though you could grasp it right under the blade at a risk of slipping. Or you could jam your fist into the threaded hole at the back.

How about ripping up some of my clothes to wrap around part of the blade? I'm looking to create a sort of climbing blade type thing to jam in the hull in case I slip.

Ahhh...that might work, as long as you wrap it thick enough.
