That'll do fine. One dead monster coming right up.

How long have I got until it reaches me? Do I have a minute or more? That should be all I need.

I doubt it, it's on the landing right above you, it only has to follow your scent a few meters before you'll be in sight. I'd give you 20 seconds generously.

Hmm, that is cutting it a bit tight.

Right, here's what I want to do:
Take out grenade (in pocket, should only take 1 second or so)
Take off backpack, grab roll of gauze (about 5 seconds, I've not got much stuff in there so it should be easy enough to grab)
Wrap one end of the gauze around the push-bar on the door (about 5 seconds or so to wrap it sufficiently tight)
Wrap the other end around the pin of the grenade (again, about 5 seconds)
Grab backpack (1 second, shan't bother closing it, I'll just hold it upright)
Spend the remaining 3 seconds running like hell down the stairs to escape the blast

That good with you? My initial plan involved cutting just a sufficiently long strip of gauze off the roll, but I won't have time for that. I'll just sacrafice the whole roll.

I kinda feel compelled to point out a frag grenade is 2d10 and depending on the rolls could kill it or just really piss it off.

True, but it gives me a better chance of killing it if it does survive. My current position is indefensible. I'm in a cramped stairwell with no cover and no good line of sight to the creature. The only way I can go is through the door next to me which could lead to anywhere, or downstairs which is no change.

And if it does survive I can just drop my second grenade as I'm running.

I'm not sure I'm seeing how that's going to do anything. You've tied the grenade pin to the door. Unless someone goes through that door quickly enough to really jerk the pin I don't see it pulling out, especially as you're running down the stairs, thus that's the path the creature would follow. Perhaps you intend to secure the grenade to the railing so that the gauze becomes a trip line? That would make sense.

Yes, I was trying to make a primitive trip-line. Can I do that?

I'm sure you could. Make an agility test to do it in a hurry.

You seem less than thrilled. Just the sword, and the trap.

Uh, Rochey I don't think your grenade booby trap is actually going to work unless you actually tie the grenade to something. The way I read your post, it's just gonna whack him in the shin.
