Well I just spent the day building a deck onto the front of our house...it's not done yet, we still have seven boards to put down onto the deck, and then add the steps and railing, but we made some good progress.

Class begins for me a week from tomorrow (Monday the 31st) - my last semester (at least as an undergrad?) before I meet the cold, hard world :takecover:

Hey, that's when Stitch and I go back too! I just ordered my textbooks on Amazon.com, it was a lot less than if I'd gotten them from the college :) .

Oh, and I wanted to mention that I have a blog that I'm finally starting to post in. http://www.voyagerprincess.blogspot.com. It doesn't just have Star Trek stuff on it, it's going to be a lot of different things. Feel free to check it out, and even comment on things (there, not here), unless of course you're referring others to it. I only have one follower right now, so I can use as many visitors as I can get!
Unfortunately it has very little right now, but just remember how little I was posting here at first. Now, I'm an Ensign! :D

Well, (I forget if I've posted anything yet) I'm at band camp. I've been here since Saturday. I'm a mallet percussionist who has never touched a drum in his life, but Kutztown doesn't have a "pit" (the mallet section that stays on the front sideline of a marching band show since it's hard to march AND wheel a xylophone), so I intended to join the drumline and march cymbals... instead I walk in and the director says "here, play snare for now" -- I have never touched a drum in my life. :bangwall: :bangwall: :bangwall: Now I'm playing the second bass drum (supposedly of 4, but the 4th drummer it turns out is still a senior in high school so he can't join us :bangwall: :bangwall: :bangwall:) The bass drum isn't TOO bad, I know how the part is supposed to sound and how it all fits together, I just can't memorize the songs or move my hands fast enough for the tempo.

I tell you, I don't drink, but if this week keeps going like this, I may be driven too.... :bangwall:

Ok, I feel better now. Thanks guys :-)

Can't you just tell whoever's in charge that you can't really play the drums that well and would rather do something else?

yes he can.......

...for all the use it'll do, the director would probably look at him and tell him to learn fast.

Actually I probably could do that, but the issue is i don't have any other options. I can't learn to play a woodwind or brass instrument at a college level in the course of 3 months ;-) I actually don't mind it too much and I think it'll be a good experience overall if I stick with it. It's a good group and not a terrible instrument, I can get the counting I just need to work on my "chops" which is, ability to move arms and hit instrument quickly essentially. If I can get that and the memorization down it'll be ok. Once our first bass player gets here it should go better. The bass parts are written for four basses (yes, basses don't all necessarily say the same thing because they have different pitches. The smaller the bass the higher the pitch. Bass 1 is the smallest, in our case Base 4 is the largest, but there are only 3 players here for bandcamp. The other had some sort of family/health/family health(?) issue. I just need to work on playing and marching. I can march, and I can play, just not at the same time  I've never marched a field show until this year, I was always on the sideline, so it should be interesting... Wish me luck :bangwall:

So at work there's this really nice older lady who's been there about twenty years. She's always asking about everyone's lives and what's new and always following the Chiefs and Royals (town sport teams). She calls all of us younger guys her little kids cause we're always so nice to her.... tonight I found out she blew her brains out. o.O

Little sudden. And really strange.

That's happened a couple of times in my past. I always think there's been some kind of mistake until they stop coming to work for a while.

Yeah. Kind of strange. I wasn't friends or even acquaintances with her but still sad that she took her life. She was a nice person. Few years ago this bitch of a manager died to brain cancer and I thought she deserved it. This lady didn't and did herself in. I guess it proves you can't always see the sad ones.
