Phebia tucked her data-slate away. "I doubt it. They appeared to be local thugs that thought too highly of their skill with a weapon. If any others like them were entertaining thoughts of attacking us the sight of their fellows laying on the ground bleeding out will likely dissuade them from trying."

" You're assuming of course, that any such individuals are in their right mind," Haxta pointed out. " What if, and giving what we've seen it seems possible, they are not?"

Phebia smiled grimly. "Then we kill the next batch as well. I wouldn't worry about the local ruffians too much. We'll be gone soon enough for the Church and out of their reach. I'm more concerned with the madman who came screaming at us in the first place."

Milo sidled up to the women's conversation uninvited. "They weren't two separate entities. The armed ones were painted the same way as the lunatic. They were merely the local muscle of the same cult. I suspect we won't have to worry about their type any more - instead, we'll have to worry about a different threat from the same filthy heretics."

Haxta glanced sideways at Milo, then returned her gaze to Phebia. " You may be right," she said. " A shame he met such an unfavorable end, before we could really question him."

Phebia glanced sidelong at Milo. "Yes, it was."

1047 Day 2

"Personaly," Marco commented, materialising suddenly from behind a shelving unit. "I think there's more going on here than we've been led to believe." Anticipating the forthcoming question Karibi cleared his throat and continued, glancing around to ensure the shopkeeper wasn't within earshot before turning back to his comrades.

"Think about it. Some strange goings on have been reported at a brand new temple. The Inquisition dispatches us to investigate. As soon as we set foot outside, we're accosted by a semi-insane man speaking about a local spirit-thing. Then we just happen to run into a gang of hostile locals with connections to a local cult." Marco shook his head.

"No. There's something going on here. How did that gang know where to find us? You seriously think we just happened to run across a bunch of armed cult murderers? They knew where we were, and they wanted to kill us. That they want to kill us indicates that they felt we were here for them. This would mean that they're involved in something that they figure was bad enough to draw the attention of the Inquisition, and make them desperate enough to try to kill us." Karibi paused, looking at the Psyker, the Sororitas and the Tech-Priest in turn before delivering the thrust of his small speach.

"The more pressing matter, however, is that they knew we had arrived, and they knew what path we were taking. So the million-Throne question is.....who told them?"

Phebia looked about for the shopkeeper as well. "We're the bloody Inquisition, of course there's more going on here."

"The more pressing matter, however, is that they knew we had arrived, and they knew what path we were taking. So the million-Throne question is.....who told them?"

Phebia's eyes narrowed. "The only person who knew we were here, who we are, and how we would move through the city was Trask's friend the Seer."

1047, Day Two

Trask felt a familiar uncomfortable anger rising. He was used to these types of conversation quickly turning into unfounded accusations against him. "Yes, I agree that the attack, the madman, and the goings-on at the cathedral site are related. The fact of our attackers being tied to the cult of that babbling heretic is enough for me to believe that," Milo said. "But then how did they know we were here, and where we were going? I guarantess that there were no psykers among them, and they weren't using technological means." Trask mused for a moment, turned more fully toward Karibi, and said, "You don't think that..."

Milo clamped his mouth shut and cast his gaze at the floor. "Yes, adept. I won't hypothesize any more, but in our new line of work caution is warranted. All sorts of caution."

1047 Day 2

"Can we be certain of that?" Karibi quized the Sororitas. "Perhaps he shared that information with someone else? Perhaps a servant or subordinate overheard it and let someone else know? Perhaps he wasn't the only person who knew we were coming that way?" He glanced at Haxta and Trask, addressing the group.

"The simple fact is, someone knew we were coming and then shared that information with others. Perhaps...." Karibi paused, frowning slightly. "Though perhaps it was unintentional? Perhaps someone got drunk, and blabbed the plans to the wrong person or in the wrong venue?" He thought for a moment, then sighed and shrugged.

"All in all, we don't know. It could be a traitor in our midst, or someone with too loose a tounge. But from now on, I suggest we be very careful with what who we communicate to outside of our group."

"Well if they weren't psykers and they weren't tracking us technologically then that leaves one conclusion, someone told them."

"Then at the very least he's guilty of being a throne damned fool. No one else that we know of knew we were coming. If he had told anyone else of our arrival the Inquisitor would have told us in order to avoid just such accusations."

1048 Day 2

"I don't disagree that he was a fool." Marco replied. "For he most certainly was. If he just let it slip, and then told no one, perhaps he couldn't remember? Maybe he was drunk, and said certain things a bit too loud?" Karibi mused. "In any case, it's not something we can do much about now." Marco shrugged and was about to wander off to inspect the rest of the shop's wares when a sudden though struck him.

"Perhaps it would be worth hitting the local taverns?" He suggested. "We've got some time to kill, and we might just pick up some leads. Rumours, local myths, tales, so on and so forth. We may even hear just who was talking about and Inquisition team arriving on the planet."

Haxta nodded. " Not a bad suggestion. However, if that is the plan, I should stay behind. I think I'd rather stand out, and it might be tricky to find out who is talking about us if they know we're the one's listening."

1048 - "I'd also suggest that we go in teams. I'll have to stow this," Trask said, indicating his staff.

1049 Day 2

"Yes, probably best if we go incognito." Karibi nodded and looked at Phebia. "I think there's a tavern just next door. How about Milo, Haxta, Enrich and I hit that one, while you, Pahr and the new guy snoop around for another one to check out?"
