For those who haven't seen it here's a basic run down without spoilers:
Sheppard and McKay play what they thought were a video game modeling two countries after themselves. McKay built what amounted to The University in Civ Alpha Centauri while Sheppard built a military country like the Spartans in that game. Turns out they were real countries and people took instructions from a godlike Oracle.
So I was thinking this opens up a lot of interesting ideas. What if real life was just like The Game or what if each one of us found out our make believe nation state was a real one. We'd all have been playing to conqueror the other nations and then all of a sudden discover we were killing people.

How many Minbari does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.

The Ender series of books covers this as well.
God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy.

Well, in most of those games sitting on your ass being peaceful and defending yourself only gets you killed. I'd regret it but I'd have to keep on playing to win and try to secure the future of my race.

It's a fair point. If you sat by with your nation, you'd be minced pretty soon.
