Bingo.
RPG's, IIRC, also have a minimum range. Some crap about "not killing yourself when you fire it" or something.
Most have a set distance before they arm, yes. Honestly a more preferable option would be man portable ATGMs, Eryx, Javelin, MILAN take your pick. There's no shortage.

In that case, I'd guess RPGs would be preferable, right?
I'd like to think they used a modified round in the grenade launchers. Basically some sort of shaped charge ammo designed to be fire from a grenade launcher. Basically you give the troops a bigger gun. A semi-auto shotgun with drum ammo would do the same, just smaller charges doing less damage (but a lot more ammo). Just design the rounds so when they impact they fire a shaped charge.

RPGs would be useful, but given the maneuverability of transformers, the longer a weapon takes to be brought to bear, the worse it will be. Laser guided munitions are good, as the laser can be aimed easily, and from plenty of angles (as seen in the Scorponok fight). Also the fun becomes where carrying enough rounds. You'd need a few vehicles to carry lots of additional ammo for the troops.

For tooling up OICW, I'd still bring the line up, just siphon off 5-10% of the weapons to outfit the units fighting Transformers. Spin it as a political pork project when several of the weapons wind up in a warehouse, while the ammo keeps on being manufactured.

Also for Scorponok, IIRC, during the fight he was hiding behind the damaged car. It didn't protect him a lot, but a few bullets deflected off its hulk would be better than deflected off Scorponok.

That would be these.

I think they said something about them being grenade launcher fired sabot rounds, or something.

That doesn't make it any less retarded. No one at HQ thought "hey, maybe we should give better weapons to the guys going up against building sized alien robots"?
This entire debate started over the fact that using rifles was retarded. This explaination changes nothing about that.

They called them sabot rounds but the effect they described was that of a HEAT round.

Most folks I've met can't pronounce sabot properly.

Perfectly understandable mental block against anything resembling French.

Anyway...

Don't know that much about most of those systems... but Javelin, especially, would take too long I think - it's quick enough to set up against an MBT, but a Transformer is decidedly more mobile.

Eryx is quite compact, it only has an effective range of 900 metres but is fire and forget. There's all kinds of other solutions, laser guided arty rounds/bombs, massed arty fire, a fragging tank etc. I realize that infantry sections make for better drama and I'm not saying killing a Transformer wouldn't be difficult but we have millions of tonnes of things in war stores that would be effective.

Bombing them proved to be pretty effective in the last movie. Megatron was taken down by a flight of F-22's with LGBs.

And in the first movie. After just having watched it again, Blackout was mostly taken down by a half dozen or so F-22 missiles, with Captain Whatever's action movie move being more or less pointless. Additionaly, Megatron seemed to get rather fucked up when a couple more F-22s fired on him, with his death by Deus Ex Cube moments later.

Also, despite just having watched the movie, I still can't remember anyone's name other than Sam Witwicky, Simmons, and Mikaela.

People wise, or out of all charecters? :?
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Human wise. I can remember all the Transformers just fine. That just goes to show how completely uninteresting the human characters were.
