Didn't they have to wait a while before they could redial, something about power?Deepcrush wrote:Just put the damn thing on autopilot for 30 seconds while you redial the gate.

Not that I ever saw. They redialed pretty often. Even more so in season two when they had the Naquadah Generators.

Yeah the Naquadah generators pretty much solved the gate power problem. But before they had those dialing the gate was an issue. They spent several million dollars a year to 'keep the lights on'.Deepcrush wrote:Not that I ever saw. They redialed pretty often. Even more so in season two when they had the Naquadah Generators.
How many Minbari does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.

Ah, I see. In that case, I agree completely.Cpl Kendall wrote:Rochey wrote:I think we saw armed UAVs being used on a couple of occasions.
Agreed on those points. They need larger reserves and vehicles.
Oh I don't mean that "control the UAV through the Gate for 30 minutes" nonsense. I mean taking a full on portable control centre with them and using the UAV on site. The centre's are big but you could probably split them up in between a few of those Argo's and link them up.
Out of curiosity, what sort of military vehicles would they be able to fit through the gate? I'd say a Humvee could probably fit through, but is there any armoured vehicle that could be deployed?

A Humvee would definitely fit through, but they'd have to get it into the gateroom.
I guess they could lower one down the shaft they lowered the Stargate through. Or assemble it in the gateroom.

Depending on how high the ramp is, you could fit a Bradley through the gate - as Tsu says, the limiting factor would be whether you could get it into the gateroom.Rochey wrote:Out of curiosity, what sort of military vehicles would they be able to fit through the gate? Well, they lowered the gate in; it weighs 32 tons. A Bradley weighs 30 tons, but really, we don't know the dimensions of the shaft into the gateroom, so there's no way to guess whether you could fit one.
Even one would've given the Jaffa a number of bad days, though.

Any decent-sized infantry unit would have given the Jaffa a bad day - they're a glorified police force, not soldiers.Tsukiyumi wrote:Even one would've given the Jaffa a number of bad days, though.

The problem isn't getting equipment through the gate, its getting it back.

I bet a Tank could be assembled on the other side. Or have one of the X303s carry it. They had X302s at their underground Alpha site.

PJs were built with the gates in mind. MBTs weren't. Plus the only PJs I ever saw were at Atlantis, which had a special hanger.
The Jaffa had a type of craft that could fly through the gate. The SGC should build something like that.

The Jaffa used a specialised type of Deah Glider with circular wings instead of the standard ones to fit through a gate specically. I guess a more circular IFV could be designed to fit through the gate if you wanted to which would certainly pose a problem for the Jaffa. However, the Staff Weapons might be more accurate and effective against a larger target.

I don't think we've ever seen anything to say that staff weapons are effective vs using Earth made tech.Reliant121 wrote:However, the Staff Weapons might be more accurate and effective against a larger target.
