So I was at a press conference in the city today (my dad is helping put together a bike race in the city on September 11th. Google "Univest Grand Prix" if you're interested. He's doing the publicity) and during the conference a couple of protesters sporting signs such as "vote no to universal healthcare" "don't destroy doctor-patient relationship" "no socialism!" "we don't trust the government" etc. etc. A couple of them looked close to Medicare age. I wanted to walk over and ask the group "How many of you are on or know someone on Medicare, Medicaide or CHIP (Childrens Health Insurance. I don't know if it's a state or national program)? If you don't like gov't run/subsidized healthcare, then you should have no complaints if we cut Medicare and those other programs then?" I also wanted to say "So, say in a couple of years I come down w/ a terminal or at least life threatening condition? 4 years from now I will graduate, probably buried in Student Debt. I can't afford my own insurance or my employers insurance plan. Would you suggest I just lay down and rot then?"

Hypocrits...

ouch.

My other half's mother made an unprecidented move today...she's never met me, keep in mind. Well, she out of the blue told Sam to invite me over to dinner, and to see the new Harry Potter film tomorrow. Which was like  I reckon she has finally come to terms with Sam's "gayness" and is kinda...wanting to meet the boyfriend if you will :D

Wow! But very cool. You have to expect some resistance from the older generation, I guess, more out of fear/misunderstanding/denial than anything else... but it's a good sign that she's decided to treat your relationship as just "her son's relationship," rather than "her son's gay relationship."

Lorna doesnt sound the prejudice type, like my parents aren't, its just hard to get past the "my son is gay" thing. The realisation that you may not have any grandchildren from that child.
