Re: nTrek shields
It's possible and plausible that the shields didn't respond to the impact of the saucer-fragment. Impact speed may have been to low. Still it was high enough to scratch the hull with its sharp edges. And I don't recall any occasion where the TOS Constitution had to withstand impact of a massive hull fragment.

Re: nTrek shields
And it's still speculation. The Narada's weapons might be extremely powerful, as opposed to the shields somehow being weaker than the Prime-timeline Connie. I tend toward that end of the argument, especially since the Narada was apparently even a powerful ship by 24th century standards in the Countdown comics. Even if we ignore that, the evidence could still go either way.Mikey wrote:But fits the evidence, IMHO. We saw lots of damage to the hull even through newly-raised shields.Avatar2312 wrote:The shield-power-estimation of the XI Constitution is way too low compared to the TOS Constitution

And we must remember the E-A's hull was scorched by Klingon torps of the same time period, imagine the damage it would have had from a torpedo 100 years in the future.

Re: nTrek shields
All true. I'm just saying that the visual appearance of the impacts and subsequent explosions looked like an attack on an unshielded hull.

Hmmmm I would assume that the shields were stronger that the TOS connie, with an arms race going on and such.

Re: nTrek shields
One thing though that bugs me... in the scene where the E is taking out the torps so Spock can ram the ship, it didn't look like there was any hull damage.Mikey wrote:All true. Re: nTrek shields
Well, as was mentioned MANY times before...............it's a work in progress, and not likely to have anymore light shone on it till the next movie, I'd say.

Re: Remake
yes indeed you have a point both the Kelvin and the E did not seem to have much shieldingGrahamKennedy wrote:The nConnie entry still needs considerable work; it's a work in progress, and was said to be such when it was added.
As for shields... looking at the movie, you wouldn't even know the ship HAD shields. They sure didn't seem to do anything.

Re: nTrek shields
Against what?
The only time the shields were put to stress was, when borg modified torpedoes hit those ships, which were able to blast through shields of late 24th cent. vessels.
Interesting though... the Kelvin was attacked with some sort of MIRVs (although nothing of reentry was present ), while the Enterprise was shot at with a single warhead version.

That's what I was saying - every single shot seemed to impact the hull.dagadget wrote:yes indeed you have a point both the Kelvin and the E did not seem to have much shieldingGrahamKennedy wrote:The nConnie entry still needs considerable work; it's a work in progress, and was said to be such when it was added.
