Maybe his firewall was fine but he opened a trojan email? "Free Android Sex!" and before he knew it, BANG! He's possessed

Re: Control panals
I've often wondered at the benefits of having Data around outweighed the dangers.
I mean, on a good day he's funny, charming, helpful, and quite bright.
On a bad day, he can take over the ship single handed.

Just keep a phaser handy.
Then again it's not like taking over the Ent-D was hard.

Re: Control panals
I guess I mean that if it wasn't for Data being able to connect to the Borg via Locutus and putting them all to 'sleep', then the Borg may have assimilated Earth (assuming Riker's plan to ram the Enterprise into the cube wouldn't have worked as well).

Good point. One individual changes the course of history.thelordharry wrote:I guess I mean that if it wasn't for Data being able to connect to the Borg via Locutus and putting them all to 'sleep', then the Borg may have assimilated Earth (assuming Riker's plan to ram the Enterprise into the cube wouldn't have worked as well).
And, no, I don't think ramming would've done much.

With the way the Borg were initially played as being totally decentralized it wouldn't have stopped them.

Re: Control panals
Where Data's concerned, that's just one example I guess. There were countless times on the Enterprise when Data saved the day because of his unique abilities and prevented, I don't know, the ship from blowing up and killing all hands. Now, if it wasn't for that then, for example, Picard would have been killed > No E-E crew in FC, no Picard to rescue the fleet and show them exactly where to fire at the Borg cube and so on and so forth.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, in answer to Mark's ponderings, I think having Data onboard is by far and away better than him not being onboard (especially when it comes to one of my favourite scenes where the Klingon challenges him to a pseudo-arm wrestle in Ten Forward, which he wins easily, then the Klingon tries to headbut him but only succeeds in knocking himself out
