As handy as some tractor beams would've been, I agree.

Well, not funny for people who live in America and actually care, anyways.

Hey, that Madrid train station bombing, what a hoot. Talk about Spanish Fly!

Wow. Probably the only way to make a joke like that worse would be to include an aphrodisiac. Congratulations.

Sorry, no offense meanted, sometimes mocking about something terrible is a good way to overcome it.
Just to be clear has nothing to do with me not being from USA, i lamented that tragedy as much as anyone not directly involved, i have seen terrorism from very close (probably closer than most of you guys) and belive me i would never wish it to anybody.

I still think it's a funny pic. I thought of removing it but i decided don't do that so others can see it and know what are we talking about, i'm guessing that if Ian or GK think it's in some way offensive they will do it by themselfs.

It's offensive in terms of taste, but it doesn't violate any of the rules so far as I can tell.

No, it violates no rules. It can stay.

Personaly I didn't find it funny, though more because I didn't actualy find the joke itself humourous than any real sense of "you shouldn't joke about that".

Yes, it was a horrible event. But does it really need to still be a sacred cow after the best part of a decade? To be perfectly honest, the whole thing really provokes no real sense of sadness any more when I think about it. At least, no more so than if I was thinking about the Pearl Harbour attack or the Somme Campaign. It was an atrocity, but I do think we need to move on and cease holding the attack up on some uncommentable pedastal.

Anyone else here feel the same as me? I know quite a few people I know in real life do, but I'm interested in the opinions of people from other countries, particularly Americans.

I agree. While I find the picture vaguely amusing, it is not hilarious.

No, I feel pretty much the same way. However you want to call it I've worked through my emotions on the subject to the point where it is a historical event to me. I don't find the picture funny but I wouldn't say it's "too soon." It's almost been eight years now.

I agree, but at the same time, it's not something I would make a joke about, just like I wouldn't make a joke about Pearl Harbor decades later, it's just one of those infamous events in American History that is always going to have a shadow cast on it. People just aren't going to find it funny, for what ever reason.

(Rochey, it's like WWI for the Irish  )
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Yeah, I agree with Rochey and Tyyr. It's a sad historical event like many others.

So, can we make jokes about the potato famine, or as I illustrated, the Madrid train bombing? How about the London bus bombings or that gas attack in Tokyo? After all, those were years ago as well.

I just find it to be in poor taste, that's all.

Agreed. Rochey - I'm not talking about the indignation of an attack on my country, or anything like that. I grew up, and still live, pretty damned close to Manhattan, and people I know were injured - one killed - in the Trade Center on 9/11/01. So, equate it not with some sense of patriotic gut-wrenching, but more like if we made a joke about the auto accident that claimed your friend's life. (If you had a friend killed in an auto accident.)
