"Great" movies you can't stand

I went to the first one purely because everyone I knew was saying it was great. I went out with mixed feelings.
Put simply, every time there was some action it was cool. Every time there was a human speaking I wanted to just leave the cinema.

I had about the opposite response. Whenever there was action on the screen, I couldn't tell what the hell was supposed to be going on. The only thing I remember liking about it was the bits where Megan Fox was on the screen, because at least then I had something nice to watch.

Agreed in general. The fight scenes were great CGI-candy, but poorly choreographed. In between turned into about a films worth of "blah blah blah" once it entered my ear canal.

I liked it for what it is, and I still don't get people's problem with the shaky cam effect. I could tell what was going on just fine.

My problem wasn't the cam effect - it was the closeness of the angles during the fight scenes combined with the actual depiction of the Transformers. It led to more-difficult-to-follow-than-necessary fight choreography.

BTW, I was watching "The Legend of Drunken Master" this morning - now that's fight choreography!

You know there was a time when summer blockbusters were intelligent, thoughtful movies that were also breathtakingly exciting. Jaws. Star Wars. Close Encounters. Raiders of the Lost Ark.

They don't make movies like that any more. They make movies that are stupid now, and the ONLY reason they do it is because somewhere around 1980 the audiences decided that it's okay for them to do that. We lowered our expectations, and hollywood was happy to oblige.

Well, I would place the latest ST movie in that list, because it's definitly not less intelligent then the original SW movie...

Yeah, I found some of the fights tough to follow, and I found some of the fights' logic tough to follow as well.
Franckly, why was Optimus Prime such a pussy when fighting Megatron, when he had just beheaded the big Decepticon moments before?
Why didn't he use his "sword" against Megatron?
That would have helped a lot...

The point is it's completely unrealistic and just covers over the fact that they didn't film things well. If you run, jump or move about quickly your brain corrects for all of this. The result is that you do not see what is provided by shaky cam, it's totally irritating.

But by the time you have that much "based on", it changes greatly.

I totally agree, GK. I just meant that I knew there would be limited character development, clumsy humor, etc. because that's what I've come to expect hollywood to throw at us. I miss movies like Raiders and Jaws.

Same thing applies to TV series. Very few good ones come up these days. And most of them are very similar. I miss the old days (in a figurative sense), when you needed good writing because you didn't have CGI. Now it seems that they think CGI is a substitute for character development and plot.

I used to like Lost, the first couple seasons, but became way too complicated (make no sense anymore) and though i realy like Heroes i´m afraid it could follow the same path.

About Supernatural it´s not bad but it´s nothing new neither, i see it prety much like Buffy without the hot chiks.
