I can understand why it was banned. Imagine a few months after 9/11, ENT having an episode all about terrorism, and Archer remarks how terrorism can work by uniting people behind an ideal "like what happened after the destruction of the World Trade Centre in the early 21st century". I think people in the US would be rather pissed.

I rather liked the ninth season myself.
As to seasons that actually happened... S1-3 had some interesting ideas but the execution came off awkwardly. By S4, TNG had found it's "voice" more clearly and S5 continued it. S6-7 were very comfortable, like a well worn pair of shoes but not always as lively as the middle seasons (though they had some of the better eps also). Overall, I'd say the middle seasons struck the best balance.

I agree with the general principle, but I reckon the best period started with series 3 - The Defector, The Hunted, Yesterday's Enterprise, and of course BoBW I - some excellent episodes, including the best individual episode of TNG, and possibly of Trek.

Yes, indeed, those are some of my favorite eps too. I'd be fine with calling S3-5 as the peak.Captain Seafort wrote:I agree with the general principle, but I reckon the best period started with series 3 - The Defector, The Hunted, Yesterday's Enterprise, and of course BoBW I - some excellent episodes, including the best individual episode of TNG, and possibly of Trek.

I would agree with CPH on that one.

Aye, I'd go with that myself.

I was in my last year of college when TNG came out. I actually went out and purchased a VCR so I wouldn't miss an episode. But those first couple of seasons...the acting was stiffer than Richard Simmons thinking about Matthew McConaughey...Cpl Kendall wrote:Hey man, remember when TOS was the only Trek?Mikey wrote:

Not to mention Picard acting like a complete ass.

Absolutely! Quite the transformation to all fatherly and philosophical the last few seasons...Rochey wrote:Not to mention Picard acting like a complete ass.

Nice analogy.
