Leviathan Class
The Treaty of Algeron shows several things up regarding Starfleet's competance
a) They signed the treaty because they had no other option (ie they were defeated). This is obviously due to Starfleet's incompetance as if they used sound tactics no one would realistically stand a chance.
b) They signed it just to stop the hostilities - allowing Romulans (and Klingons) an immense advantage, for no apparant reason.
c) They put all the information of the documents of the treaty into one console, which exploded with a blast equivilent to ~0.5 Kilotons due to consoles being the best place to transport million degree kelvins of plasma. To hide this blunder (and make sure no one ever corrects this problem), they signed the document in good faith, assuming the Romulans would never have added something on the sly that may give them any future advantage, as that is completely against their nature.
The most likely is, of couse, reason c)

I know that, i'm still just upset about it. Like how my Great grand father, grand father and father all had to fight in wars to save the french. Some things just feel wrong.

But think of the cheese they helped protect!
I know the feeling though - two of my uncles received Purple Hearts fighting the Germans off of a few hectares of sand and rocks in North Africa. And a great-great-uncle who had to flee Europe after WWI... seems he was drafted by Austria-Hungary, called a few wealthy friends and relatives, and somehow was "conscripted" into the office of lieutenant...

Ah, that's an old google trick. If you google "waffle," you get John Kerry.
OK, OK, we might have neede their help for that one, but don't get too witty - remember who it was that they BEAT at Yorktown...Captain Seafort wrote:Pfft. It obviously wrong since they missed out France's one and only victory - Yorktown.

Well, after Crecy, Poitiers, Agincourt, Blenheim, Ramillies, Oudenarde, Malplaquet, Dettingen, Minden and a few hundred others we were starting to feel sorry for them, so we allowed a token victory.
Only two things are infinite - the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the universe: Albert Einstein.
