Actually, I've been loath to read any fan fic lately. I saw a few stories were up, but I accidentaly read some Kirk and Spock slash stuff on accident. I'm MUCH more careful about what I put into my brain now.

I tend to dislike most vs fic. SWvST being the top of that. If we see the Falcon in FC then we should just think that its using trek tech. That solves all the trouble.

If a crossover is well thought out, I really do enjoy it. GKs Portal for one, and I've read a couple of other good ones.

But I've seen too many that are just damned stupid, and nothing more than a wankfest.

Versus fics can work, and work well, if they're about the characters rather than the situation. Focus on the technology and you get people screeching, with varying degrees of supporting evidence "you're wrong, X would really have Y for breakfast". Focus on the characters, and leave the technology behind and good stuff can be produced, like the Worlds Without End epic.

Almost impossible to just focus on characters in a sci-fi cross over.

I have yet to find a Vs fic where I couldnt tell within one chapter which side of the vs debate the author fell on. Its just that obvious most of the time.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

True enough. A point with which I wish more people would stick to. Not just for vs fiction but for any fiction.

Why? Just assume that all tech is equal (eg, phasers have the same power as turbolasers), that whatever mystic energy fields they use are the same (eg, the Force is the same thing as whatever gives the Betazeds their mind-reading powers), and that speeds are similar.

I recommend Strikers Star Wars/Star Trek fanfic then. It seems the most neutral to me.

And I've started reposting it, too. ;)

I don't focus on tech/give damn one who'd win. You know who'd win/ Whoever the author decides to win.

If it's something like Han and Lando against Kirk and Riker in a two out of three match in poker, then I'm all for it. But universe against universe for ST and SW has been soured for me.

I meant the fact that you're not into "vs." bullcrap... but Han sitting down to a no-limit game of hold'-em is pretty cool, too.
