Re: The relationship between the Connie and the Miranda
No, no. I acknowledge it's a good idea to flank the Connie and minimize their torps. But still, I'm also saying it won't be fully negated. After all, they can turn on a half-dollar.Deepcrush wrote:Thats good, I thought for a while you were going to say otherwise...

When it comes to having a Miranda and you're up against a Connie. You need every inch you can get.

Re: The relationship between the Connie and the Miranda
If the Miranda managed to Flank the Connie and get off a salvo of torps first, it may be enough to swing the advantage slightly in its favour, though I imagine it'd still be pretty damn iffy.

You'd have to catch the Connie with its shields down. Thats the only way to take an advantage.

Otherwise, phasers fire and torps streak in.

Re: The relationship between the Connie and the Miranda
Why not test this arguement scientifically *ahem* and have a battle on here using the Miranda and Connie with two competent commanders? I know it'd involve alot of work from Rochey or someone but why not let schoolyard rules settle it
But I can't throw, I throw like a geek!

First we need to finish this one.

Re: The relationship between the Connie and the Miranda
Actually, a dorsal attack would be best. You'd only be exposed to phaser fire, and the torps (IF they can track. The only evidence we've seen of this is the modified torp in STVI) would be blocked by it's own saucer.

Re: The relationship between the Connie and the Miranda
One of the bigger bits of totally unsupported speculation on the whole of DITL is that the Reliant was a refitted Miranda, and that there was a TOS-styled Miranda class which was refitted exactly along the lines that the Connies were. We even made up a TOS Miranda sizecomp picture for that.
Partly, I just love the idea of filling out the TOS fleet a little. I really wish that the revamped TOS effects had switched one or two of those Connies we saw for other classes like that...

Well, they at least gave us the Antares-type in "Charlie X" and a few others.

Re: The relationship between the Connie and the Miranda
Yeah, but just imagine the M5 battle if they used a couple of Connies, a TOS Miranda, and a Saladin instead of four Connies.

Re: The relationship between the Connie and the Miranda
Oh come on, they redid the effects. They had to render the scenes again anyway, and how hard can it possibly be to do a Saladin? It's basically one step away from being a Connie Kitbash, and a Miranda isn't much better.

Re: The relationship between the Connie and the Miranda
Oh yeah - remasters.
Well, the Saladin/Hermes type would be right out, because of the original backlash against Joseph's designs; and I guess they don't have the creative juice that Graham does in coming up with the TOS-style Miranda.
