I didn't know where to really put this. So I put it here.
So, here goes, as much as anyone wants to disagree, Troi had nothing to do with E-D crashing into the planet, the helm was down. She couldn't pilot the ship even if she was the best pilot in the world.

So yes, disagree all you want, lol, it can be fun.

Because what else was she gonna do, tell Riker that everyone was frightened, she isn't a very useful person to be on the bridge, I won't argue that, but it isn't her fault they crashed.

I dunno.........somebody else maybe could have steered them AWAY from the big planet, and out into deep space, where the saucer would have been safe.

Once they cleared the stardrive it exploded as I recall. So I don't think that anyone else would be able to really do anything about it.

I seem to recall the idea that the E-D saucer was designed to make a planetfall if necessary. Which is just what it did. The impulse engines probably hadn't kicked in or had been damaged by weapons fire, the shockwave from the core breach bumped her orbit, she fell into the planets gravity well and, as Scotty said, "down we went"

Yup, so not Troi's fault, she's still useless, but she didn't break the E-D, lol

Still, what in her career would have qualified her to take the helm of a Starship in a crisis? A junior officer who had, I don't know, flown the ship at some point in the past seven years would likely have been a better choice.
