Damn, now I'm very jealous. I'm facinated with guns, but the laws controling them are very strict over here.

Reduces gun crime by increadible amounts - the fact that police don't carry guns either (at least in the UK - not sure if Rochey is from the Republic or Northern), means that criminals don't feel as much of the need to "fight back" with guns. Besides the fact that if they did, they'd get shot by the rapid armed response team - which would get to a situation nearly as fast as the police.DarkOmen wrote:

That's a helluva nice collection, DarkOmen. This is why any other country would practically be commiting suicide trying to invade the US. We have more privately owned guns than the other 9 in the top 10 put together. In case of invasion, they'd have to fight for every block in almost every city. I imagine California wouldn't put up much of a fight (except for the gangs), but the rest of the country...

Oh, an invading army would certainly have problems in a weapons-rich culture (as the US army has been discovering for the past four and a half years), but there's no way a civilian army can defeat professionals. Without professional backup of their own they'd be overwhlmed by superior fiepower.
Regarding armed police - in the UK firearms are limited to an extremely limited number of officers, as Thorin said, except in Northern Ireland - the RUC were certainly armed, I'm not sure about the PSNI. In the Republic of Ireland (Rochey's from County Dublin), I believe the Gardai are all armed.

Meh. We have a lot less crime than other places, so I'm rather happy with that trade off.Wow... I'll never complain about the laws here again. That sucks
The Republic. My location says as much:not sure if Rochey is from the Republic or Northern

Republic of Ireland, Dublin.
Though I didn't expect many of you to understand it.
Nope. The normal Gardai aren't armed, but there's an armed response force. And a lot of important police work is actualy done by the military.I believe the Gardai are all armed.

Of course we couldn't defeat them army to army, we just don't have the hardware as a civilian militia. but we have shear numbers, in support of the actual military, and we also produce almost all our own heavy armor.Captain Seafort wrote:Oh, an invading army would certainly have problems in a weapons-rich culture (as the US army has been discovering for the past four and a half years), but there's no way a civilian army can defeat professionals. I would think that the factories wouldn't mind over producing, to arm some of the front line militias with artillery or such. In any case, red dawn is a good example of what can be done with guerilla warfare.
Alot of gun collectors and such, are also ex military, I would think that in farther back areas, that training wouldn't be a huge problem, by forming militia and the such being trained by the military.

I didn't mean a bunch of civilians could take on an MBT... I'm just saying that they'd have a lot more to deal with than our military.
