Jeez, I must have read the LOTR books half a dozen times but I can't recall most of these differences between the films and the books. My memory works as well as it plays games with me, and vice versa. If ignorance is bliss perhaps then I was able to really enjoy the films without recalling these nits.
Behold! A list of deviations from the books on each of the films, showing just how many he changed for absolutely no reason:
Fellowship of the Ring
The Two Towers
Return of the King

High School Musical.
All three of them.

So popular (everyone was talking about them), yet so retarded.

Indeed. All copies of them must be burned in sacrafice to the almighty god of good taste.

I refuse to see them or even be in the same house where they are being played.

I just had this image of you grabbing the DVD player and smashing it to pieces, then saying "sorry" as you hand the wrecked remains over to the owner.

Damn, I know it involved a guitar, but I can't place the title of the movie.

That would be Animal House. And of course, Worf smashing Geordi's lute in Q's Robin Hood fantasy was an homage to it. :)

Rent.

Some people I know love it, it was popular as a marching band show the year it came out, I hate it.

Maybe hearing the music every 3rd week because of marching band competitions or football games has something to do with it, but I was sick of it before I even saw part of it.

I much prefer the alternate version of that musical spotted in the movie Team America: Lease

"Aids! We've all got Aids!"

Team America, I love that movie. :)

I did not see all of Rent when it was shown on cable, I really found nothing very interesting and I found myself sympathizing more with the landlord than the bums who did not want to get jobs so they could pay the rent. I saw the protagonists largely as a bunch of freeloaders who were pretty much failed artists and could not live up to that fact.
