You're a Captain, you get to pick your starship. Which class?
Re: You're a Captain, you get to pick your starship. Which class?
From a strategic point of view, the Romulans have posed a danger to the Federation for 200 years. Starfleet SHOULD have simply moved in an annexed them, disbanding their military, similar to what we did to Japan.
That's just my opinion though

What would be smarter is to just go in and wreck the RSE and then leave. Makes a nice statement when you can look someone in the eyes and tell them "I'm going to level everything you have and you can't stop me! Piss me off again and I'll be back for more!"
Keeping control over the whole RSE would just be trouble and the UFP isn't good at dealing with trouble. They can't even keep themselves in line let alone another empire. You're better off making them weak after a serious ass beating and letting other smaller powers start picking them apart. You know the Klingons would be jumping off the walls to get at the RSE.

Very true. But it would be HUGE trouble if the Klingon's took over the RSE space. They're power would increase by more than a couple of factors

Aye, but they'd be stuck fighting one hell of an insurgency. I can't imagine the Romulans taking being conquered calmly.
On the other hand, the Remans might become the puppet rulers of the former RSE, as they'd be happy to become the masters of their former oppresors, and they'd probably be pretty happy with the Klingons calling the shots.

idk, if the shinzon rebellion is anything to go by, if the Remans get free they'll start warring with anyone that tries to oppress them again.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Not if the Klingons are smart enough to be lenient with them. Turn them into a Vichy France style "independant ally" and only demand taxes from them. Other than that, leave them mostly to their own devices, and leave them free to opress and torment the Romulans as much as they want.

Thats what happens in th beginning of the Titan book series. Remus becomes a klingon protectorate.Rochey wrote:Not if the Klingons are smart enough to be lenient with them. Aye, that's what I'd imagine happening.

Seeing as the Klingons are bound to join the UFP (I think its around 2485). I don't think it would be a big deal if the KDF keeps a grip over the RSE. The Remans would make good allies any how. You wouldn't even have to worry about protecting them that much. Let them have a few dozen cruisers to take care of themselves and boom. An army and fleet of fanatics defending their homes.

There have been a good number of smart Klingons. Worf (smart by ST means), Martok, Gowron and the Duras sisters. Kempek managed to hole the Empire together even though the Romulans had been trying to start a civil war.

idk if the Klingons will/would ever join the Federation, their pride won't allow it.

There was a time that the Klingons could never call the UFP friends. Times change as do mind sets.

You could say the same of Russia and the USA. Does that mean they'll ever join together? Nope.
Personaly, I'm highly skeptical of the idea that the Klingons will ever join the UFP.

Re: You're a Captain, you get to pick your starship. Which class?
I thought it had already been spoken of in one of the future eps (maybe novel but can't say since I dont' read them) that the Klingons were going to join the UFP.
But, if they do or if they don't doesn't really matter. If the UFP let the KE have a free hand against the RSE then the AQ would be in much better shape. The UFP could always play the hero and call off the KE or "speak" with Martok about restoring peace to the AQ. The Klingons would get to have some fun and the RSE would be out of the picture for the next 20 years while their population rebuilds.
