Re: What's the latest in people's lives?
We're changing car again This time we get to go new. Dad's leaving the navy this year and is getting a pretty big amount of money. Some of it has to be saved, but we have about £15,000 MAX to play with to replace the old Focus. We're looking at the new mk VII Ford Fiesta 1.4 litre engine. And we are looking at a top of the range Titanium model, 5 door, with leather interior and keyless entry. the Whole package. Climate control and everything.
The interior will be a little different, more refined than that. But still.
Any thoughts?

That is quite nice, far better than the Fiesta's of old. Little more than a shoebox on wheels they were.

Mum's in love with it. Good thing, since she's the primary driver. Dad's got the '06 Matiz.
And dont get any stereotypical woman driver things. She's quite a petrol head at times.

Nah over here it seems all the terrible woman drivers use large pickups or SUV's.Reliant121 wrote:Mum's in love with it. Good thing, since she's the primary driver. Dad's got the '06 Matiz.

The terrible drivers i have seen come in three variations.
Young boy racers: 18 year old kids with Ford Sierra's that predate me with spoilers the size of my radiator. Playing games on the road, and thinking themselves fantastic.
Middle aged grumpy arses: Only concerned with themselves, wandering around in their Ford Mondeo's at either 10 mph, or 80 mph. Completely ignorant, and always thinks your in the wrong.
Old gits who cant see: These really piss me off. 80 year old almost blind men/women wafting around in Rovers that look like they were carried forward in time with the TARDIS, doing about 5mph.

And, weaving through that mess, unseen by most, are the true drivers. People who take it seriously, and know the capabilities of their vehicle. People born to pilot craft of all types.
Ahem. I mean, "some of us are good drivers."

Don't forget the women. Usually late 30s/early 40s, bumbling around thumb up bum mind in neutral, and changing direction as if they think everyone else is telepathic. Probably never been in an accident but seen hundreds.Reliant121 wrote:The terrible drivers i have seen come in three variations.

Oh i know. But theres a rare type that p*ss me off, a particular type of old man driver. My grandad being one of them. He knows the capabilities of his car. He knows that the 2.0 litre he has in that Mondeo has some power. And does he use it.
I swear, he is already doing 30 by the time the light goes green. I am pinned to my seat when i'm in with him. He's so grumpy and arsy, driving about 3 milimetres off the back of anyone in front of him.

Yeah, people riding right behind you is a serious irritant. If you know how well your car can brake in given conditions, at certain speeds, you know to stay as far away from the other car as possible.

Better that than the old folks who drive 50 mph in the left (fast) lane of the Garden State Parkway, where the speed limit is 65 mph and the average actual speed is about 0.5c. I agree with Jerry Seinfeld that you should be allowed to drive your age in mph. I mean, some of those folks don't have that much time left to get where they're going.Reliant121 wrote:Oh i know. BTW - why does the picture you posted of the 5-door Fiesta only have 3 doors?
