"Great" movies you can't stand

Post by Sionnach Glic »

Similar in concept to the "Bad movies you love anyway" thread, what films do absolutely hate that are commonly considered (either by critics or the masses) as great?

LotR:RotK - not quite the worst in the trillogy, but far, far short of the standard set by FotR.

Lord of the Rings movies, Harry Potter movies, and Titanic. Titanic should end like this.

I've seen that video a dozen times, still makes me laugh.

Seven. I hate that movie.

Schindler's List.

I know, I know, but I thought it was boring, not particularly moving or emotional, and it cheated on the "shower" scene in a way that I just do not understand. Wild horses wouldn't make me watch it again.

Titanic for me as well, and Gone With the Wind. I just can't see the attraction.

I never thought they lived up to the books myself. (nevertheless, I can't picture the characters as anything but the movie representations though - which generally weren't bad. Snape and Black were quite well played, etc.)

Oh Lordy. I found myself watching the start of Gone With the Wind once, and I thought "Hell, this looks dull but I'll watch it until thingy says that 'don't give a damn' line and then bail."

It's virtually the last bloody line in the movie! I sat there for three and a half hours waiting. By the end of it I was thinking "say the bloody line, say the bloody line..."

Yep. All the length of Gandhi, none of the pesky thought-provoking.

I don't know; the "Kate Winslet posing for her portrait" scene wasn't entirely unnecessary.

If the film were cut down to just that one scene and the rest consisted of a home-made film of a 10-year-old re-enacting the sinking scene with a toy ship, it'd be far superior to what we really got.

Wait a minute... the ship sinks?!

Here's one - Eyes Wide Shut. The great, great, GREAT Kubrick shuffled off this mortal coil with a huge black mark on his career.
