Consider the subject - this is eminently possible.

The death threats and hacking threats I really didn't put too much stock in - they seemed to be the posturing of an insecure little mind. The turn on Reliant was just vicious and unwarranted.

As to getting back in with a new IP address - I really think that leopard is too dumb to change its spots. I think a few moments of Ian's vetting would turn up the turth pretty quick. Just add the following entrance exam question:
"Do you know what being a 'jerk' is?"

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

just add a checkbox which, if checked, says you believe that whales can genetically engineer themselves to communicate via subspace. If winked, logged members would see an icon of a chakat in the users profile, not the user itself, to let him/her/hir/hy to be looked at with extreme suspicion.

Oh yeah that's right. Sorry.
How many Minbari does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.

I got ticked because damnit, I was seriously defending him. At the time, I really didn't have the "full" scope of what was going on, and didn't want to see a colorful character get the boot. I was trying to compile a reasonable and articulated defense for him, then he starts arguing the definition of "jerk", clearly ruining my case, and making everyone elses.

I find the big problem being that he/she/it/freak pushed to far and to hard. Lets face it, the rules on DITL are only as important as the mood. They really don't hold any value to a single person, but more so for the group. This gives us freedom to move in directions that you can't on certain topics. Chakat saw this and made the mistake of trying to make everything personal. Thats a problem when you make everyone a target. A school full of hackers, seeing how that would cross state lines it would be a federal case. Since we're also talking about crossing national lines, he'd get more hell out of that then if he really did kill someone.

If this fella is as stupid as you claim he is, do you really think he'd know that or even care if he did know? He probably thinks he'd get away with it, assuming he was serious about it.

I highly doubt he was terribly serious. That statement, like everythign else he ever said, bolied down to, "Hey! Somebody, look at me!"

Hmm...my half a semester of High School Psychology says, this guy's parents were divorced and he was probably an elder child who's younger sibling, probably his sister, got more attention then he did and that he felt largely underappreciated by the rest of the world. Just a guess though, but wouldn't suprise me if he was a textbook case. Did you try music to sooth the savage beast?

IIRC, this mindset began before any talk of a divorce. I believe it was a young man of truly above-average intelligence who was frustrated by not having been treated as the godlike intelligence which he thought he was.

For the record, I certainly never thought he actually intended to go kill somebody. I doubt he'd have the cohones for one thing. And the threat was rather vague, he didn't say "I intend to come kill you, Rochey!" It was a back and forth kind of argument and then he said something like "I kill my enemies!"

That's why I gave him a suspension for that incident, rather than phoning the police!

Kind of. The divorce was coming, but hadn't been an issue when the assholery started.

Perhaps not officially. The official annuncement usually comes after the problems related to devorce start. It probably only got worse as the divorce became official. Sadly I have some personal experiance in that area myself, but don't worry, I'm not an asshole. Unless I'm drunk, I'm a very mean drunk which is why I don't drink that often.

My parents' divorce was the best thing to happen to me at that point in my life. I came out better because of it (goes to show, the textbooks aren't always right  ).

And, I'm only a mean drunk if I'm having tequila.
