Re: The Staplic Star Trek Universe
ah...
the paticles are neutral normally, however they have the ability to pick up a charge temporarily (for 2.1 seconds ) when the deferent charged particles interact, they release the energy that makes up the Oly-euron (then return to a neutral state), which are then focused using some sort of crystal with unkown composition or origon. the emmiters seem to extend this life, because as the charged particles run down the array, each chamber and eject a few more charged zetrions sustaining a longer reaction.
So the arrays don't actually allow for a longer beam, they simply add more zetrions than can be fit into a single emmitter, and can do it in a staggered pattern so the beam will continue.

Re: The Staplic Star Trek Universe
btw, staplic does your universe begin after current cannon data
(like after nemisis, or insurection, etc.)
you should like make a time line for it

I think it's set well after Nemesis. Early 2400's, IIRC.bob wrote:btw, staplic does your universe begin after current cannon data

Re: The Staplic Star Trek Universe
It is...If you read the opening post (I think) or the ship paragraphs for launch dates it starts mid 2380, and so far has extended to 2410...I've got political basics on that time frame, I'd put them up, but their kind of long.

Kirk Class
In 2405 the sciences division of Starfleet began to push for a specially designed ship able to explore and map nebulas and other similar phenomenon that blocked sensors on normal ships. The hostilities between the Klingon's and Federation were also at a new high. Pressure from both the sciences and military factions of Starfleet pushed them to build them a new ship for their needs, and in 2407 the Federation assigned Admiral Dax of Sciences, and Vice Admiral Mark of Starfleet Tactical to begin work on the new ship.
The deliberations over the design were actually fairly quick, the basic shape and size was agreed upon within a few weeks, however the onboard gear dragged down design time by months. Admiral Dax wanted large numbers of sensor suites, science labs, astrometrics, and other science related rooms. Vice Admiral Mark wanted the ship to have a heavy armament, heavy shields, specially modified to work in all nebulas, and to be fitted with one of the new cloaking devices.
Finally after 8 months of deliberation, the designs were approved by Rear Admiral Paris in Class Development and the team was sent to Utopia Platia to oversee production. The ship was rather complicated, incorporating the newest and best sensor suites, and used them in ways they hadn't been used before, so as to increase their ability in nebulas. The ship's armament was light, but still added a certain amount of additional production that could have been dropped without some of the extra wepons. Finally a year later, the USS Kirk emerged from Space Dock, the newest ship in the fleet.
Currently the ship is labeled as a "Submarine" ship, filling both exploration, and stealth combat rolls. The light armament of the ship makes it rather ill-suited for open combat; however it serves it great in stealth combat, in places such as nebulae. The ship is in high production now, as light cruiser/explorer.

That's a weird-looking ship, dude. I kind of like it, but it's out there.

Re: The Staplic Star Trek Universe
It sorta makes me think of a Super modern Miranda contemporary, but with a large diagonal hull sliced onto it.
Definately quite mold-breaking.

Re: The Staplic Star Trek Universe
well, I wanted it to be different with the new roll. I actually got the idea for it, by putting the engineering hull in front of the saucer...from there it just kind of evolved into this.

Re: The Staplic Star Trek Universe
Might that not lead to overly-complicated power routing from core to nacelles?

Re: The Staplic Star Trek Universe
the WC doesn't neccesarily have to be in there. It may be located in the saucer section.

Re: The Staplic Star Trek Universe
exactly...so on this ship, the saucer would be the drive and the drive would be the saucer

Re: The Staplic Star Trek Universe
No, it couldn't. Staplic just expressly referred to the forward wedge-part as the "engineering section."shran wrote:the WC doesn't neccesarily have to be in there. It may be located in the saucer section.

Re: The Staplic Star Trek Universe
no, I said it was inspired by flipping the ship to see what it lookes like with the engineering section in front.
Plus in the post right above yours I said the "engineering" hull is the saucer, and the "saucer" is the engineering hull.

Re: The Staplic Star Trek Universe
i believe either the...Curry or the Shelley (cant remember which is used in DITL) has the engineering in front.

I don't think there's any canon on the internals of the Curry/Shelley
