Re: Why is Picard... French?
Picard wasn't that egotistical in S1. He was a jackass, but he didn't seem interested in inflating his ego.
Maybe WW3 was started by Britain invading France, and some of their citizens settled over there? It'd explain how an incredibly English person is supposedly French, and why France was allowed house the HQ of the entire Federation.

Sorry to disagree with you, but especially in his dealings with Q, Picard was the most egotistical pompus ass I've ever seen. Here is a being with power to turn off suns, and Picard is telling him how superior humanity is.Picard wasn't that egotistical in S1. If I was the Captain, I would have been a bit more cautious.

I would have at least given him some respect.Mark wrote:...If I was the Captain, I would have been a bit more cautious.

In this he's not alone, we've seen pretty much all the major characters since TOS spout this BS.Mark wrote:

Re: Why is Picard... French?
Aye. The various Federation members seem to make it a personal mission to go around telling everyone how great and culturaly superior they are because of their pseudo-communist nation.
No wonder they're always getting attacked by various races. Prancing up to an alien race and saying how much better than them you are is practicaly asking to get your ass kicked.

That explains why the Romulans DETEST the Federation.

It explains why everyone hates the Feds.

Re: Why is Picard... French?
And the only races that want to join are the annoying ones. (In TNG of course)

Not all the annoying ones wanted to join. The Baku didn't.

Granted, but when was the last time a cool race wanted to join? They all seem just as.......well, fake.

And yet, for all this, we've seen some dodgy morals from the Federation at times. Do as I say, not as I do, eh? They speak loudly, and survive by virtue of having a really big stick (aside from the one up their @$$)

Re: Why is Picard... French?
That's pretty much the situation in a nutshell.

Re: Why is Picard... French?
That's why you have to love the smaller races that stick there collective middle finger at the Feds.....like the Tholians and Gorn, for example.
