Logarithmic scales are the inverse of orders of magnitude. For example, 10^log2 = 2, 10^log3 = 3, etc.Mark wrote:Dude, logorithim sounds like a dance move to me.

Re: Ideas for new classes of starships
The Log of 8760 is 3.94250410617.
So the formula just works out to Speed = Warp factor ^ 3.94250410617.
On that scale :
Warp 1 = 1 xc
Warp 2 = 15.37 xc
Warp 3 = 76.04 xc
Warp 4 = 236.39 xc
Warp 5 = 569.76 xc
Warp 6 = 1,169.13 xc
Warp 7 = 2,146.85 xc
Warp 8 = 3,634.43 xc
Warp 9 = 5,782.36 xc
Warp 10 = 8,760.00 xc
Warp 11 = 12,755.43 xc
Warp 12 = 17,975.31 xc
Warp 13 = 24,644.85 xc
So the formula just works out to Speed = Warp factor ^ 3.94250410617.

Re: Ideas for new classes of starships
that works too.
and yes they will be faster, through regular speeds and i believe the first two levels of transwarp on the TNG Scale after that it's slower.

Re: Ideas for new classes of starships
So, Staplic........your speeds are based on the theory that Starfleet finally managed to come up with a working transwarp drive, or a simple recalculation?

Re: Ideas for new classes of starships
simple recalc on my part.
I wanted a warp scale that was much faster so if you look at it:
At warp 10 your 8760xc
that puts you at 2.628e12 m/s
or 9.4608e15 m/hour
a Light Year is 9.4608e15 m
So at Warp 10 your traveling at 1 Light Year every hour.

Convienient for plot purposes. Wonder why Trek never came up with that?

Re: Ideas for new classes of starships
The new warp scale is one thing I really disliked about TNG. I would have given the E-D a cruise speed of warp 12 and a top speed of warp 14, plain and simple. None of this 9.9... 9.99 crap.
I also would have called it transwarp drive.
I vaguely recall reading once that Gene didn't like how often TOS generated tension by having the Enterprise go at some super-high warp factor. I get that, certainly that one where the E-nil went at Warp 14.1 was silly, but the TNG scale is a pain in the ass.

Re: Ideas for new classes of starships
The TNG scale only get silly now we have hit really fast speeds. I would find it equally stupid to hear someone go at warp 47.
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Re: Ideas for new classes of starships
From an OOU, TV-production standpoint, the TNG scale falls down as well. Hearing a starship captain barking out an heroic, hip-shooting order in an attempt to save the known universe, only to have the dialogue bogged down because he has to call out a factor to the third decimal place, is really anticlimactic.
