Yeah, it's unfortunate that people see the extreme end of the spectrum and assume that we're all isomegahypernerds who wear Starfleet uniforms to the supermarket...

Yep, I will freely admit to anyone that I'm a Trekkie, I don't care if people look down at me for that, its what I am. I don't own a Uniform, but I would love to have a TWOK one in my closet just in case (you never know when an emergency might require it). I have never been to a convention, though I would like to go see one, just to be able to say I went.Tsukiyumi wrote:Yeah, it's unfortunate that people see the extreme end of the spectrum and assume that we're all isomegahypernerds who wear Starfleet uniforms to the supermarket...
I did, when I was younger, create Uber-Cruisers, for that I apologize to the Community at large, I was young and foolish, but I did not inhale. I don't do that anymore and I hate people doing it. Kids I can let pass since they don't really know better but adults who do it and defend them as the greatest thing ever just piss me off.

It's funny you say that cause every time I write some biting criticism of "Star Trek", I worry I will be censored... or accosted by fellow members. Glad to see I can make fun of it without fear .
As a devout "Babylon 5" fan, "Star Trek" is just a show with neat space ships (the only real reason I like SciFi).

Re: Ideas for new classes of starships
Pretty much. We're probably one of the most controversial Trek forums for the simple reason that, when we see something stupid, we don't just ignore it or say "hey, it's the 24th century, maybe it works fine then". We all rush to be the first to start a thread title "X sucks". We're more realistic in our outlook.Yeah I've checked out a few other trek forums and came to the sad yet ammusing conclusion that WE are the most hardcore trek forum around.
Basically every other forum is pull of ultimate trek fanboys circle jerking to ultimate wanktastic ships and how amazing Kirk is.
90% of their topics are positive while 90% of ours a negative.
I think the reason for that is that we aren't all just uber-Trekkies. We all like other sci-fi films/series, and plenty of us like those others more than we like Trek.
That we're not such hardcore fans, I think, is the reason we have a more rational outlook on it. We're not tip-toeing around, being careful not to criticise our favourite show. We just like the series, and we're more than fine with pointing out its flaws.

Re: Ideas for new classes of starships
Before anything, we're mostly intelligent, educated people who like sci-fi (and Trek) not because it's Teh Awesomeness!!!!!11!!!!1!! but because its interesting and vital literature. (Um, did I just say that about VOY?!?)
I think of the rest of you first and foremost as intelligent, sensible people who are a joy to discuss things seriously (or not so seriously ) with (that's a compliment)
Wherever these other forums are, I don't want to go there.

I don't think that we're not "hardcore" fans for being willing to criticize 'Trek - rather, just the opposite. I think we're the ultimate fans for being able to recognize and discuss the shows'/movies' flaws, yet still appreciate their positives and remain true fans.

hello-o, 16 here, i consider myself newKuvahMagh wrote:Yes I agree with you, things like this are IMHO why Trek is declining. People see this type of thing and they don't want to be involved in it and thus we can't generate new fans.

Hey, we already have someone at 14 and another at 13.
Before DITL opened up its forums I considered joining up at EAS, but the forums there just seemed to lack any kind of real debating spirit, which is what I wanted.
Uh....no idea. I've never actualy bothered going onto any other sites to look.Do we actually get talked about in other places?

Re: Ideas for new classes of starships
I've seen talk about us in several Trek forums when I've just been jumping around the net. Sometimes good, sometimes just a random word here or there, sometimes pure hate that makes me seem like a nice guy even when I have to deal with Teaos and Seafort AT THE SAME TIME! Some of it was funny to me.
